Such a pretty Mosque. Small but so intimate. Dress appropriately. There are scarves for ladies to borrow and remove shoes before entering. A peaceful oasis away from the outside noise. Clean and well kept. Go in and look up. Take in the intricate detail and then go outside and appreciate the architecture. You can notice the Ottoman history and detail. The Mosque welcomes people of all backgrounds but as I said, just dress respectfully. I would suggest to avoid prayer times. You don't need long, maybe ten to fifteen minutes.

What a beautiful, peaceful place of worship. The paintings on the walls and ceilings, as well as the stained glass, are magnificent.

Many thanks to the woman in the mosque who patiently answered many questions that I asked her.

Notes: visitors sometimes need to wait until people complete their prayers. All need to take off their shoes before entering. Women need to cover their heads and arms while inside the mosque. Scarves are available at the front door.

Friendly locals are really happy to take you through the rules. Obviously be aware you will need to take off shoes and cover your head, legs and arms if you're a woman but apart from that, it's free, beautiful and the people are welcoming and keen to answer any questions you have. It's a very quick place to visit but worth it and it's close to some other attractions.

We made the very short walk from our Hotel (Sofia Balkan Palace) to this lovely Mosque. Vey beautiful inside - picture attached.

We never found the remnants of the baths that were associated with this Mosque.

Ottoman mosque built in 1566. It is currently the only working mosque in Sofia.
It was built over natural thermal spas.

This mosque is built in the typical ottoman empire style. Located opposite the indoor central markets and opposite the history museum of Sofia. The setting of this is not too overwhelming and compliments the ruins of the Roman city of Serdika. As a place of worship it is free entry and the obvious rules have to be respected: removal of shoes., women to wear head scarves and appropriate attire. A note to all males coming to prayer: there are wudhu areas but again these actual pans are floor based and NO TOILET PAPER! You need the two paper and water. The toilets are a flood of water so shoes can expect to be contaminated! The actual wudhu area is next door to below ground level toilets and again water everywhere. This is unbecoming of the whole wudhu purpose. Respect your fellow worshipers!
On entering the mosque through the beautiful hand carved doors one enters the realm of solitude. Immaculately clean red carpet beautiful stained glass windows lots of natural lightand lots of space to put shoes. In fact overwhelmed at its peaceful nature in the heart of Sofia and yet underwhelmed at how small it is. Came on Friday 15th November 2019 for jummah prayer and was so moved by the azan and its acoustics in the mosque : the bother gave one of the most heart moving, sincere Azans I have ever heard and was almost moved to tears . This is truly a gem in Sofia! Here the true beauty of Islam displayed. Can observe the Sufi influence. Women are also welcome to prayer in the first floor mezzanine. This is Islam respecting other religions and cultures as the Prophet Muhammad (puh) intended to be. A must see for all. .

We are Turkish so of course we wanted to see one of the early works of great Ottoman architect Sinan. The inside was too much restored so it was quite disappointing for us but worth to visit to see a 500 years old building, and visit the mineral waters.

Banya Bashi Mosque was built on the initiative and with financial support from benefactor Mullah Effendi Kada Seyfullah. So in some sources and notes mosque mosque named “Mullah Effendi” or “Kada Seyfullah.” On the arch above the door with paint on stone written text can not be read. Below it shows the date 974, which gives reason to assume it was built in 974 on the AH (Muslim calendar) or 1566-1567 year.
Banya Bashi Mosque is interesting architectural creations, reflecting the specificity of the Ottoman architectural thought in the 16th century. It was built by the Ottoman architect Sinan. The interior of the mosque acquired its present form as a result of repeated repairs.

We learned it's the only mosque in Sofia and it's open for visit for tourists, so we stopped by. The guys at the entrance were pretty friendly, looks like they didn't mind anyone to enter (even on Friday, muslim holiday) once everybody removes their shoes and women wear long sleeves and cover their hair. In my opinion it's better to avoid visiting the mosque during prayer times.
