    Wat een fantastische natuur!
The best place with sufficient accommodations to visit the 7 Rila lakes is Sapareva Banya. From there it is about 20 minutes by car, on a good road, to the chairlift. Follow direction Panichishte. For the chairlift you have to go past Panichishte and follow the road for a few more kilometers. Then you automatically arrive at the parking lot where you can park for 5 lev for a whole day. The chairlift up takes about 20 minutes before you arrive at the building with restaurant and the starting point of the walk. It is a circular walk, we walked it to the left. Then you start with a steep climb on a good path and it takes a while before you see the first lake. What a fantastic nature and nowhere to be seen waste. Halfway through the walk you can take a turn to the viewpoint where you can see the 7 lakes at the same time. We didn't. That path was quite steep and you would have to take the same path back to continue the circular walk. The remainder of the walk was more over boulders and occasionally through snow (it was early June). A few lakes were ice-free, but a few lakes were still frozen. We spent about 4 hours on the tour. We made many (photo) stops, a lunch break and a few drinking breaks. So it can be done much faster. Take your food and drinks with you, because you can't get anything along the way. Nature is overwhelming in this area. Really recommended.

    Stunning but busy.
Very busy. We made the mistake of going at a weekend. Take cash with you for the car park (5) and cable car (25 return) as they don’t take card. We decided not to wait in the queue for the cable car and walked up. Straightforward route but quite steep so only suitable for those with a good level of fitness. It took us 1hr and we got there before the people in-front of us in the queue for the cable car. The circular route was stunning but very busy with people. Food only available near the lift so take snacks if you need to. Places to refill water on route from natural springs. We chose to walk back down as the lift queue was again really busy. Worth the trip but be prepared for the hoards of people.

Absolutely worth it, beautiful lake views
Amazing views. Make sure to bring enough cash (25 leva per person) for the lift, they often can't accept credit cards at the ticket station. We did the shorter route that takes about 2.5 hours. We went a bit off season so there were not so many hikers.

    Spectacular experience
One of the best hiking trail which is situated at 2600 meters above sea level in Rila mountains. The trail is 3,4 hours with spectacular view around 7 glacial lakes. There is a lift which takes you to the start. September is the best month as it’s not very crowded. The first part is hard and it’s about an hour then is mostly flat when you rich “kidney” lake and the magic circle. The third part is the most difficult as the elevation is 300 metres when you encounter “the eye” the deepest lake 37.5 meters. And on the top behind the view point is hidden “the tear” which is the most clear one. From the top you can see all 7 lakes. On the way back the trail is going very down so you go closer to the lower lakes. If you looking for a place to recover after hiking I really recommend the hotel “Panorama” Food is amazing and sauna is good a addition Strongly recommending

Such an awesome hike and is definitely worth the trip from Sofia. The views are unreal and exceeded our expectations with the variety of scenery the hike had to offer.

Armed forces commando training is not enough to prepare you to climb to this place where views are great. Very hard walk.

About 2 hour pleasant drive from Sofia brings you to a open lift. The lift takes you up to the hut named “Rila lakes” where the actual hike begins. First you climb a rather steep slope to reach a plateau from where you already see three of the seven lakes. Walking along the plateau takes you to the Kidney-lake. If you do not feel like going further you can remain here and enjoy while the others go further to the Ezeren-peak (2550 m) from where you see all the seven lakes. The climbing is not as difficult as it looks and you can always stop and go back, so give it a try. The views are nothing short of spectacular.

We stayed at the Alpine hotel in Panichishte which was excellent and a great base for visiting the Rila National Park. There is a chairlift (called Pionerska I think) that takes you up to the open Planina above the tree line. It takes about 20 mins to get up there and the views of the surrounding mountains are superb. there are a number of trails but the main ones are obvious and take you up to Kidney Lake and then up higher to get great views of all the lakes. It's well worth going to the top even though it's quite steep in places. It's all perfectly safe, no drop offs, just great scenery. The weather was superb while we were there (in August) but it was still a bit cool at the top so layers are the order of the day! We spent about 6-7 hours up there but it can be done in less and you'd still get to enjoy some great scenery.

I did a trip to the Seven Rila Lakes with "Traventuria" and although most of the times I prefer to explore on my own I was thankful that I chose to go with a guide. First of all, the guide knows the mountain better than you and he knows which route to choose depending on the fitness level of the people in the group. We had two guides - Todor and Radi and they were both really friendly and supportive. They took us on a trail that goes up to each lake and then you climb up to the summit (some people actually chose to wait near the Kidney Lake). The trail to the Kidney Lake was easy and pleasant (this is the longer road to the top because there is also a shortcut which is steeper, and it does not give you the chance to see the lakes from a close distance). After this it was a bit challenging, but it all depends on your fitness level. You should wear proper mountain shoes with a grip, and you should be fine. I had a heavy bag that was pulling me down, but our guide Todor offered to carry it for a while. As I said the guides were really professional and friendly, the trip was organized well... the only thing which I would like to add is not a criticism it is a recommendation - please, make the departure at 4pm. We had to depart back to Sofia at 3pm and I had the feeling we were racing with time. When you go to a place like this you need more time to relax, take pictures and soak in the nature. And the views are just amazing. I recommend this trip to all the visitors to Bulgaria. And I also recommend Traventuria .. because there are many companies that offer similar trips, and the prices are lower, but they usually make the trips only on a Sunday and it is always better to go during a weekday because there will be less visitors. In Traventuria everyone speaks English, so, it is perfect for foreigners...

Beautiful hike, took us about 5,5 hours full of enjoyment of the amazing view. The lift really made life easier to get to the start of the hike. Just make sure to have 25lev p.p. cash to pay the lift easily.
