My only reason for vsitijg this market was to get fresh fruits. It seems to be the locals' market and holds memories of the past mortar shelling that's destroyed lives in the city. For the visitors I saw there, I am almost sure they were not familiar with the history of this market or even care. Nevertheless, it's a place for fresh veggies and fruits.

A van tour that we took did just a quick drive-by of this market, but we wanted to see it in more detail so went back ourselves later in the day. This is a functioning market; it seemed to mainly have fruits and flowers. It is also the site of two different bombings during the Siege of Sarajevo, which tragically claimed more than 100 lives. There is a memorial at the back of the market which contains the names of those who lost their lives.

Along with being a central market place where locals come to shop with tourists visiting as well, it is also an area for a memorial of those people killed by a mortar strike in the conflict.
The market has an awesome atmosphere, great fresh produce and a buzzing vibe with all the stores. I really enjoyed this as its a place to see how the locals live.

This market is well worth a visit. Not only is there numerous fresh fruit and vegetables stalls, there are fresh flowers and plants. The other reason to visit is to see the memorial to the victims of a mortar strike during the war. The Markale Market is a place to purchase fruit and vegetables, it is also hallowed ground.

Markale is a nice fruit market in the city center of Sarajevo. There are local products on the market. It is very local and cool to see. Also look at two Sarajevo Roses on the floor.

Great place if you want fresh local food. Lots of variety and colorful. It is hard to miss, on one of Sarajevo's main roads.

The same salad that costs 1 KM outside the market gate is 6 KM inside the market.
I checked several times. The prices become 4-6 times more when they figure out you are a foreigner.
Is this how you welcome your guests?

Located off, Mula Mustafe Bašeskije bb, Stands an open air, covered market, selling fruit and veges, which is very popular with the locals, nice to just stroll around, taking it all in, unfortunately it is not any cheaper than the supermarkets.

When visiting a new city, I always enjoy going to the local market to help understand how the locals eat. This market is filled with a wide variety of items and friendly vendors. There is also a Sarajevo Rose at the back of the market.
