It is a big museum. 1 hour or more would be enough. For entrance it is 8km per person. You can find botanical garden, ethnology, a lot of animals (stuffed) and herbs. It is a mixed but worth to visit.

Whilst the building is impressive the displays are not.I was hoping to find out the history of the country.Insyead there were displays of the ice and stone age.Parts of ancient statues. So unless this is your sort of thing, don't waste your time.
I spent about 20 minutes here.

In my opinion this is a really great museum.

There is a huge collection of mineral stones!!

In short, this is one of the most incredible museums I have seen.
Spread over three of the four buildings in the precinct, this is just stunning in every way. There are sections for the Neolithic time, a very decent archeological section, the courtyard with numerous tombs and recorded plant life, a section at the rear for minerals and another for animals and bird life.
The piece that makes this is the displays, the quality of these is remarkable. This museum should be globally renowned.

Purpose-built as a museum at the turn of the 20th century, the structure itself is really fascinating. The collections inside are well-organized and carefully labeled. Although some of the exhibits can be considered a bit dated, there are also temporary exhibits that really connect the past with the present. The entrance fee is not high. It is well worth a visit.

The exhibitions in the national museum are more related to the ancient history, Greek and Roman culture influencing the settlement in the Balkan region. Not much facts specific to the Bosna history and also almost none related to the Ottoman period (ruled Bosna for over 400 years) and the internal-civil war period. The only surprising finding for us was the learning about book of Hagadah (i.e. ancient Jewish heritage kept in Sarajevo museum)

This place I expected more local history but it had artefacts from the Bronze Age and Roman times. These are well kept and interesting to see how much there was. The Jewish 16th century book which you can’t get close is most valuable item,

After the time of my most frequent visiting of Sarajevo before 2015, when the museum was closed, I finally succeeded to see it :) Marvelous buildings and garden! I was very happy to see it developing in the direction of modern museums, showing some of the most interesting bits of history on the territory of today's BIH. Some parts of the museum remain quite old-fashioned, reminding me of the Natural-historical museum in Vienna, but as a whole, it is well worth visiting.

A MUST when in Sarajevo!!! Do not miss it.
Really a good museum and the jewel in the crown in the Sarajevo Hagada that is on display at the museum and regarded as one of the most valuable National treasures on Bosnia & Herzegovina

This is a remarkable museum which, fortunately, secured its treasures during the war. We visited the front two galleries which covered prehistoric times and then development up to the 15th century. Luckily, we were with our tour guide who could interpret the displays as English subtitles are rare.

This beautiful and graceful marble palace does an excellent job of displays. New glass or lucite cases with state-of-the-art lighting allow items to be seen at their best. Fortunately, we were visiting on the one Saturday a month and the single hour of that Saturday that visitors could examine the historical Hagadah (maybe the museum's dearest treasure).

In the courtyard is a small botanical garden. There are not numbers of specimens but the space is pleasant and well designed.

If you are staying in the historical district you need to take the tram to the newer part of town, near the government buildings.
