Decent museum, gorgeous garden

The exhibits themselves - ranging from geology, zoology to ethnology - were not what we expected. If you're a fan of taxidermy though, the exhibit is very well done. The garden... read more

The national museum has fine architecture and a large collection of interesting items that have survived the Balkans. Most of their pieces are fragmented and incomplete, but still very interesting. The most valuable and incredibly precious piece they have the Haggadah. Unfortunately, they elect to keep it out of sight and not visible to the people who pay entrance. You... More

Very disappointed in this museum; the Sarajevo Haggadah is in a locked room under glass; you cannot see it. What is the point of having it if people cannot see it??!!

Free entry. Good to be in a museum that is filled with school kids on excursion - gives one hope for the future. They were very noisy - but seemed genuinely interested in the exhibits. This museum is quite interesting - especially the natural exhibits. Good job with the curating, heating and lighting, but everything looked like it could do... More

I didnt expect much from the museum when I read what exhibitions it has but I hoped I was wrong because it is a national museum. Well... The history of the country in this museum finishes in the middle ages which I do not understand why. Also the exhibition on etnography is not very well developed. The nature part of... More

The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an imposing building close to University of Sarajevo Campus. I visited on a weekday and found the place to be almost deserted apart from a few groups of School Children. The museum is immense consisting of the Department of Archaeology, Department of Natural History and Ethnology Department as well as The Library... More

I have been recently to the British museum Greek and Roman section. Not to be lightly beaten, surely, but the crowd smothered my interest. Now here I have been alone on a rainy Sunday morning, and the small but genuine collection offered food for thought, education and meditation. There was a smiling japanese co-visitor in the garden. I think we... More

More interesting than I thought it was going to be. Very large building but manageable sections. Most have English descriptions and ones that don't, didn't really need them (gem/geology section). Some dated displays (old looking) but still interesting all the same. The replica of an old Ottoman-Turk house was really interesting. Nice botanical garden you walk through to get to... More
