The orthodox Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, also known as the Old Orthodox Church, is a Serbian Orthodox church just to the north of the Sarajevo old town. A church has been at this location since the 6th century, although the present structure only dates to the 18th century. The building is mainly Romanesque and built with polygonal masonry. The interiors have a Greek Cross layout typical of orthodox churches. There’s an iconostasis at the front with pillars in front to form a square, almost creating a boundary for the nave. Unusually, there are seats arranged around the walls of the nave

Very old Orthodox Church. Built in the 6th century, this small structure has stood the test of time. Very picturesque, very important to the orthodox community. The church itself is open to the public.

This ancient church is a beautiful site to see and very friendly lady always there to show you around, there’s also a museum attached and a shop to buy orthodox crosses and icons. Has a peaceful vibe and positive energy!

Serbian Orthodox church built on foundations from the sixth century is a real trace in time, you must visit the museum that contains the fifth most valuable icons in the world. Peace and quiet that bring peace to the soul.

A beautiful place, historical, with lovely woodwork and icons. Very old, we had tea outside and also visited the interesting museum. A must for visitors to Sarajevo.

Supposedly it costs 3 marks to enter, but no one was there to pay. The church is small, but has some beautiful icons inside. On the second floor is a bizarre child's coffin with shrine-like paraphernalia surrounding it.

Entrance fee is 3 BAM and if you are local or from former Yugoslavia probably they will not charge you even this little amount of money. You can enter the church and a small museum which has religious objects and icons. Church is interesting as you can climb the stairs and walk a part on the upper floor, which is not usual in orthodox churches. Small garden around the church is maintained impeccably and one can only be sorry that entire complex is not much bigger and that heavy traffic and trams are running just few meters outside the walled church yard. Too bad we did not have anybody to give us some more explanations.

After my Walking Tour was over, I checked out the public market and this attraction.

It is an old Orthodox Church that I initially thought to be an old Catholic Church. Entrance fee for both the Church and related Museum is 3 Bosnian Marks.

No picture taking is allowed inside both attractions. The small church has paintings, huge chandelier, religious icons, beautiful altar , etc.

Displayed at the Museum are religious paintings, various containers used for blessings, manuscripts, some furnitures,
etc. Another room appeared to be selling wines.

There are several tables and chairs foe one's use at the periphery of these attractions. After my visit, I briefly rested my tired feet here.

the catholic church from 6th century, now a bit redesigned and used as an orthodox church, really cute, well worth a short stop - just few steps from Baščaršija.
