This park is located a short distance from our hotel.

We wandered around the park and agreed it was a beautiful spot to remember those young lives taken. A particularly moving moment for us was when we came across a statue of a man calling out. The sign below explained the man was from Srebrenica calling to his son to come out of the woods and promising they would both be safe. The bodies of father and son were found years later in a mass grave.

Heartbreaking that this is a memorial to children killed in the 1990s

This memorial to the Bosnian War is specific to the children who died as a result of the Siege of Sarajevo. The centrepiece of the monument is a glass sculpture in the centre of a fountain. The glass sculpture features two cylindrical forms leaning toward each other. It’s an abstract representation of a mother protecting her child. Rotating cylinders are sited around the fountain, engraved with the names of the child victims. The cylinders are made from shell casings and ammunition fired at Sarajevo.

This was surrounded by some ongoing building work to what looks like create a new pedestrian pathway. So we could not really see the monument which was disappointing.

The memorial is obviously a poignant reminder of the lives lost of the children of Sarajevo but I don't understand what it is supposed to represent.
I really enjoyed the cylindrical barrels with names of some of the children taken to early. This was the most poignant and memorable part of the memorial.
It is such a shame of what people can do in war to remove innocent souls from this earth in a theatre of war. If you have children with you when you visit, take the time to explain this to them so they can understand this.

Currently, the Memorial for Children is within a construction site, as the workers redo the footpath. Even so, the memorial is visible from the Veliki Park. A visual and vivid reminder of the personal cost of war.

Nice memorial statue in the middle of the city.
It is just by the park, not far from the big shopping mall in the center.

A very necessary monument to mark such sad and tragic events in history. However I personally didn’t like the sculpture and felt a more fitting one could have been created.
It didn’t do justice to the meaning of it, but that’s just my view.

This somber but lovely memorial and surrounding park must be visited and contemplated by any visitor to Sarajevo who intends to go away with any kind of basic understanding of the suffering and pain of the Siege of Sarajevo and the impact that this has had on the city, nation and the world.

Located within stands a beautiful piece of art, (memorial), dedicated to a sad event within Sarajevo’s history, “The Siege of Sarajevo“, where over 1300 children lost there lives between 1992-1995.

This memorial is located near a park and is quite somber. I viewed the main monument as a mother and child together. When you walk over to the part of the memorial where you see the names and age of each child that was killed during the siege it is quite powerful. To see the name of children who were killed from from less than 1 year old and up is emotional. I would recommend everyone take some time at this place and think about the cost of war.
