It is interesting to still see Lenin in the square, and this is a massive square with some imposing soviet architecture scattered around. I preferred victory square but this is a nice walk and it is interesting to try to spot the little communist touches...More

There is a guard infront of the building and statue and he might tell you off if you try and photograph. I made a quick attempt with my huge DSLR and succeeded though so who knows.

The square still clearly represents an esthetic of past sovietic grandeur, respectfully maintained and recicled to the new times and flags.

In your walking tour you will pass in the square! It is central! You can see buildings with the post war architecture!

This is my favourite spot in Minsk, the architecture on and around this square is a good example of the era in which Stalin dominated. Next to the government building is the Church of St Simon and St Helena (red church)

This is a large square with some interesting buildings and statues. There are fountains and a nice bell you can ring in memory of the Chernobyl victims.

Independence Square in Minsk is very reminiscent of the Soviet era, with grandiose Soviet style Stalinist Realist buildings, a sprawling vista, a still existing Lenin statue, an Orthodox church renovated post-1991, the university buildings and, within walking distance, the Josef Stalin conceived Minsk Gates, the...More
