Very nice and fine beautiful statue of the national hero of Albania Skanderbeg with impressive height of several metres and nicely shaped realistic created horse and guy with also realistic accurate face features. Good beautiful material that still looks mint condition despite it being like 50+ yrs old and no rust. Nice position in the Skanderbeg Square that contributes to a positive environment and give pride and unity to the people living there or visiting one would assume.

It is fitting this imposing statue anchors the southern end of the square bearing the name of Albania's legendary hero. I didn't have the best conditions to photograph it. The same statue can be found as you approach Kruja. Nowhere have I been able to find the name of his horse.

This is definitely the best feature the square has. This national Albanian hero was neatly depicted on his horse there. I really liked the flag flowing in the wind behind it, as well as the mosque and tower in the background.

This guy was one of the top 5 military leaders of the middle ages. Brilliant and wise. He is the national hero for good reason . Everyone has the photo here. Please look him up and see his story from hostage to leader.

This is the main square in the centre of Tirana. Big area (about 40.000 square meters), next to National Opera and Palace of Culture. Impresive place. Must visit place in Tirana

One of the few statues erected by Albanian communists in 1968 (replacing a statue of Stalin!) that survived the current onslaught on everything that is reminding Albanians of the communist period. The reason is all Albanians can agree on Skanderbeg as a symbol of national pride, as he led a successful rebellion against Ottoman rule during the mid 1400s. Eventually the Albanian resistance to the Turks was squashed and it took almost 500 more years to finally establish independence. The dream of Skanderbeg became reality.

Note that Skanderbeg is widely regarded as a hero not only in Albania, but all over the Balkans and the rest of Europe. There are statues of him in Geneva and Brussels, London, Rome and Budapest.

This imposing piece is a necessity for Albanian patriots. The historical character is there depicted, and carries its modern message as well. This statue, like it or not, is there to stay. A greeting is recommended.

Not much more to add - you can't really miss it as you walk through the square and its worth five minutes of your life stopping to take a look.
