This is where Kim Il Sung, founding father of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (and grandfather of current president Kim Jung Un), was born and raised. Considering that Kim Il Sung has God-like following in DPRK, this place is like a "holy site" in the...More

What I liked about this was the local guide and the interaction with my guide. My guide must have been here dozens of times but she still faithfully translated everything. "This is a noodle maker", "This is a clay pot" Fascinating stuff ! Its really...More

When one is in the PDRK, you are always with a minder who tells you about where you are going and the facts from their indoctrination. It is always interesting to hear their side of the facts. With this in mind, this attraction in PDRK...More

Interesting to listen to the guide talk about Kim Il Sung, but the whole thing feels a little contrived and fake.

Entering the park we saw a huge queue of North Koreans patiently waiting in line to see the residence. Probably government mandated... Us tourists could skip the queue and go right to the front. That did not make it an interesting or enjoyable visit though....More

Nearly every group goes to see the great leader's birthplace because KITC requires it. Unfortunately, it's not particularly interesting to many tourists, so it ended up being one of the less fun stops on your trip. Imagine foreign tourists coming to the US and being...More
