Interesting peak. It's just so sad it's in the vastness of the one of the most oppressive crops in our time but despite it was spectacular especially the rise on the way there.

One of those things you just must do when in STP. Try for a clear day, or all you will see are clouds and fog.

I love the green. The palmnut plantations are beautiful. Great pictures can be taken here. The rock is sometimes hidden under the clowds though. Pray for sun so that it comes out. Lol

We arranged a taxi(70E) through our hotel for a 120 km south circuit ending at the viewpoint of this volcanic plug. The dramatic needle is one of the highest in the world rising 1,210' above the surrounding jungle. The moss covered, solidified magma from an active volcano formed 3.5 million years ago was successfully climbed in 1991. There are many examples in different forms that we have seen; Wyoming’s Devils Tower, a National monument rising 1,267’ and Sri Lanka’s Sigiriya, a UNESCO site at 590’ with a 495AD palace on top. This one sits in an equatorial jungle.

This stunning monolithic structure was actually the main reason, why I wanted to go to Sao Tome. As a geologist I love such impressive structures. There are plenty of view points to have a look at it from different angles, but you can also walk there. You should use a guide tough, because you can get lost and there could be black mambas around. So be carefully!!!

You can't miss it if you come to Sao Tomè. It can be see from the road at a certain distance (getting close is very difficult!), often covered by clouds-

What a grea area after you crossed big palm oil plantages. Would not do it again, because the streets there are terrible. From the city we had more than 2.5 hours to Porto Allegre

The season and the weather at the moment were not looking like we were going to manage to see the amazing rock. But as we were approaching it from the side, the clouds decided to move away and we saw the whole rock. Amazing!

Although you can only see it from the road it is worth to drive to the places where you can admire it better. It is a very interesting thin and very high rock formation. Enjoy!

Pico Cao Grande is quite a unique landmark! I enjoyed the drive to the south of the island as well as the amazing view of the Pico. There is no way you can miss it, just keep driving south until you see it. Luckily, the roads are empty enough that you can always stop and take some great photos.
