Quiet place in busy city center, good for Catholics for few moments of reverie during cheerful holidays period. Easy to access by walk, while visiting Papeete as there are not to many Catholic Churches opened all the time on the island.

This is an active cathedral, so although popping in as a tourist is very pleasant as it is so cool inside, it seems somewhat disrespectful to be wandering about as people are praying.

Compared to European cathedrals, this is more on the scale of a church. Easy to find in the center of Papeete and the door seems to always be open during the day. Sit and enjoy the quiet and the beauty of the stained glass windows.
Not as ostentatius as many Catholic cathedrals, a pretty building in one of the less unattractive parts of central Papeete. Catholicism is in a minority here, which may explain the understated nature of the facility.
Certainly not on the scale of your normal cathedral, but well worth a visit. The stain glassed windows are interesting and have the feel/style of Gauguin. Very much a working church with people coming/going and worshipping.
