Fantastic Market - Great Food - Nice and Unique Souvenirs - Excellent Location
A great market to visit in the city center of Papeete. There are a whole lot of food choices, so arrive hungry and leave happy. On top of all of the food vendors, there are the standard souvenir vendors, clothing vendors, collectibles, spices, flowers and more! If you choose to buy lunch, there are a few tables spread around the outer rim (outside) of the market. Everything you buy here is packed to go. Don't let that scare you off, as you should be able to find a nice table to eat and enjoy your freshly made lunch. The sandwiches were great, and the crepes were incredible. Parking is available on the streets, so you might have to drive around a bit to find a parking spot. There is much more to see and do around the market, so plan to spend a few hours here enjoying everything this area has to offer.

    Beautiful market
Great market with local and fresh products. Great to buy souvenirs, everything is locally made. The kiosks attendants are so nice, ask them questions, they will recommend local things to do. They accept Pacific franc, euros and us dollars.

    Very Average Market
Thought that we would spend a few hours at the market but were disappointed once we arrived. It is a single building with ground floor & a partial 1st floor. Can cover this in 30min (tops). Mainly has food for locals to purchase with a lot of pareo's & pearls of questionable quality. Bought a tee-shirt on level 1 (approx. $50 AUD) so not cheap either. Had a coffee & juice on level 1 to kill some time before we left.

    Great local experience!
Papeete Market is a must-visit for local goods and delicious produce. For the best experience, go early on a Sunday morning (before 9am) for unique food options. Elvis' stall is a standout, offering an array of local products like monoi oils, perfumes, soaps, lotions, vanilla, coffee, and more. Make sure you find him! I found great souvenirs here and excellent mosquito repellents. Elvis, the vendor, is incredibly kind and genuinely helpful. His recommended sprays were effective, and the tamanu oil worked wonders on my mosquito bites. A definite recommendation for all visitors, especially those prone to mosquito bites!

    Lots to look at
Lots of different products to look at. Several places to eat. Nice people. A pleasant way to spend an hour. Lots of stores and restaurants in the area. We bought a few things for my granddaughters.

    Expensive and closes early
It is a good place to buy flowers but the pearl shops were overpriced. The place closes at noon on Dec 30th and was not planning to open up until New Year's week. It was open for a short time in the evening too. Nice to walk by.

Great place to see local produce and get your gifts
This place is a must to visit, to see all the offers from the island, good place to buy your souvenirs, even pearls, good prices. You can also observe local life if you come early enough. it is an open market, no aircon of course, so could be hot inside during wet season.

    Shopping Experience!
Located a few blocks from the pier so it's easy to visit and walkable from cruise pier. One section had fish and fresh produce which was fun to see. The rest was typical Tahitian souvenirs-clothing, jewelry ,trinkets. We did not buy as we were just starting a cruise. I found that the prices about the same as in the islands but there was better selection here. There's a lot of shopping around the market and you can buy everything you need. Basic items were high due to most items being imported.

    Colorful Market
Can't miss this if walking around downtown area. A busy but clean place to shop and eat. All the fresh fish and fruits looked tempting. Souvenirs can be had here with plenty of vendors selling different wares. It's also colorful so a good place for photos.

Worth checking out for the variety, but shop elsewhere.
This is like a giant flea/craft market mixed with a food fair and fish/meat market. Great for locals buying groceries and lunch. For tourists, it’s good for a look see but don’t buy. The prices and quality made it not worth it. I found better quality items around local markets across Tahiti and at the main Tahiti tourism office and at the Tahiti national museum. Definitely don’t buy black pearls here. One thing that they do have (that I did buy) was flower garlands ( leis in Hawaii and heis in Tahiti) from the numerous small hei stands around the outer edge of the market (outside the gates). Fantastic quality, especially the head or hat heis which are much more ornate than what we can buy at similar markets in Hawai’i.

Directly behind the visitor center and across the street from the cruise port.
All locals selling anything from fruit & vegetables to pearls.
Bustling market cool to just walk through.

This is a nice open-air market in downtown Papeete. It has tables set up and run by individuals, store, operated by businesses, and a few eating places thrown in. We found that most, even the individual vendors accepted credit cards. There are some bargains, but you will want to comparison shop.

Bring a lot of cash with you. Six vanilla beans will cost you about $100, small bottle of vanilla is $40. Same bottle you can find in the supermarket for $9.99.
Incredibly overpriced pearls , even colorful baskets are fifty to hundred bucks or more. You may afford a pareo for 20 bucks, but dresses are priced as baskets above-mentioned.

The food they sell looks not very desirable, but they have some fresh fruit I vegetables.

We have been to many markets, but this one is certainly a tourist trap. Not worth the taxi ride from your hotel.

If in Papeete, the market is worth a visit but, other than the number of stalls selling pearls, it is not anything special. The market has a modest fresh food section and other stalls selling the typical touristy souvenirs. However, the Papeete market is possibly unique in offering a wide selection of pearls.

The market was recommended to us. Food on the first level and then souvenirs up top.
It was a little dirty, but it is an outside market with fresh foods.
The upper floors had many stores to shop at with repetitive items. i actually found many of the same items at the duty free store at the airport.
