Have watched rugby here twice now. A fun time. So many locals enjoy the park to train, play and just get together. Nice place to meet some locals and have a chat over sports. Met a nice couple just exercising and now enjoy a friendship.

It is the oldest park in the Pacific and still looks the same as it did when it was created. Many festivals and government gatherings are happened here. There is a stadium if you cannot fit in it you vmust sit under the trees which are old too. There is a Tennis Club and it is a recreational atmosphere. Includes families and couples relaxing after a day at work. It is conveniently placed to other attractions only a minutes walk away!

Albert Park is a large grassy field. It is great if you're looking to play some pick-up soccer. Other than that it doesn't hold much interest for tourists. It's worth checking out some of the nearby attractions though (Fiji Museum, Parliament building, seawall), Thurston gardens).

This park is actually a grassy field located directly opposite the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva. In the evenings, if the weather is good, there are many people from local rugby clubs who train here. You can sit at the edge of the field and watch them train and play rugby till sunset.

This PARK is meant to be the famous airplane landing site for Ms Amy Johnson, the American woman whose intentions was to fly solo across the Pacific destined for the USA but alas none of that memory is recorded here. She flew in from Sydney, Australia. The large number of water holes is indicative of a lack of a duty of care for a site that is continuously used every year for the premier Hibiscus Carnival event in Fiji, held during the months of August and September. A sometimes rainy period. Lack of proper planning and as always, inadequate funding to maintain the place, unless special events transpire like Pope John Paul I having said Mass here on a build-up platform/mount.

Why is this called a "park" when it's just an empty field used for sport events and training? When it rains, and it rains pretty much every day in Suva, the field is closed. There are some stone benches on the sides, so you can rest your bones in the shade and the trees surrounding the "park" are beautiful when blossoming all red in December. For a proper park cross the street and walk into the Thurston Gardens in front of the Fiji Museum.

Albert Park is a huge open space just off the sea front. its a place that residents of Suva use - all day every day - for sports, celebrations, meetings and fairs. But it is not a tourist destination. Tourists should keep on walking south, cross Ratu Cakabou Street and go into Thurston Gardens, Suva's gorgeous botanical garden with huge lush trees and plants. And you could visit the museum which is in the gardens.

As far as I know and see, it's only an open space.
Must be nice when there're events there, since there's a big bleacher there.
There's also an open mini gym in one of the corners. You can combine this with other equipments along the seashore.

We were staying at the Grand Pacific Hotel, just across the street from Albert Park. The entire time that we were staying there, the entire hotel (and the entire town) was getting excited about Friday's rugby match which took place there. I wonder who won...

Due to open again in March 2016, it will no doubt become the go-to place for local kids and adults looking for space to play sport informally. They are adding a new stand and an artificial pitch, but hopefully the rest of the park will remain open access. The old greasy spoon under the stand has probably gone for good - but the Ginger Kitchen across the road in the Fiji Museum provides a healthier alternative to fried chicken and goat curry.
