During the daytime, there's hardly anything to see or experience in this square. One nice old building, a couple of green trees, a place to satisfy your hunger or thirst.

In the evening, the square is illuminated and looks considerably more romantic than in the harsh daylight. Don't go out of your way to experience Plaza de Cagancha.

This is a pretty little plaza. There are a number of nice buildings surrounding it but the overall impression is a lack of investment. You can sit and watch people going about their business and there are a few shops and little market type businesses where you can purchase artisan products. At night it is well illuminated and there are a few reasonably priced places to eat.

A very pretty square in the middle of old town. You've got a big church and lots of eating places around. A statue and some places to sit. Lots of people around, and folks selling stuff.

Montevideo has beautiful buildings, but dilapidated, and not so much trees, this is smack in the center, Avenida 18 de Julio divides the plaza, and the obelisk is right in the center, a Mercado de los Artesanos is there in one of the buildings, it was a block away from our hotel, so it was a good sign to get out of the bus or tell the driver to stop in Cagancha.

I accidentally walked into the Plaza de Cagancha on my way to dinner tonight... and I'm so glad I did. There is a major statue (obelisk) in the plaza and some judicial buildings that amazed me with their architecture... I have no idea what the obelisk stands for but it's right off of San Jose Ave. It is certainly worth the look if you are in Montevideo!!
