I always enjoy trying to get a birds-eye view of a new city where possible. This viewpoint was a perfect place from which to see Montevideo. It's fairly centrally located with 360 degree views of the city and river from the top. It was a bit of a walk from the historic old town, but we wanted to stretch our legs and were able to get there in a reasonable amount of time.

The viewpoint is reached via clear elevators on the outside of a government building. It is free, which is very nice. When we visited on a Friday afternoon, one of the two elevators was not working, so we had a short wait in line (about 10 minutes) before we rode up. Once up, you can stay as long as you like, and walk around the plaza open to the air all the way around to see the city from different angles. We only stayed for about 15 minutes since we had somewhere to be afterward, but we enjoyed our time there.

Great praise to the authorities for offering this viewpoint for free to tourists and locals.

In many other countries, they would charge a hefty price to let people ride 22 stories up in an outdoor elevator and access a well-kept, landscaped platform with a 365-degree view of the city skyline.

In my opinion, the Mirador Panoramico is Montevideo's second-best tourist attraction after the recreational Rambla, which runs for kilometers along the city's coastline and beautiful beaches.

Amazing views of Montevideo. The free access was a major advantage. A lift takes you to the top. Definitely put on your to do list when in the city.

The best 360º view of the city from the top of the building. Definitely the best place to spend some time during a sunny day. It's free!

Most city tours will stop here as a photography stop. This place gives a panoramic view of Montevideo and one can see the extent of the isthmus and width of the River Plate where the German Battleship Graf Spee was scuttled in this deep river.

Certainly can't beat the price. Given the fantastic views, the city could make a few bucks with a small admission charge. It wouldn't have deterred us. We were there on a beautiful sunny breezy day.
Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

They should have better signals to get there, but if you can make it to take the elevator -the glass walls one, at the back of the building, but ask for directions at the main entrance, "informes" (information) desk.
The terrace is big enough and proves you with an (almost) 360 vie rom the old town and port to the East of the city with most of the landmarks reachable from this panorama view.

Free of charge, a great view of the city. A small gift shop featuring local artists. Nice to see more locals up there enjoying the view of their city.
