Neighbourhood: Punta Carretas
Punta Carretas exudes a relaxed elegance as one of Montevideo's most affluent neighborhoods. The iconic Punta Carretas Lighthouse stands tall against the skyline, while the Punta Carretas Shopping mall, a former prison, melts history with modern shopping experiences. A blend of upscale dining spots and casual cafes line the Rambla Republica del Peru with views of the Rio de la Plata. For art enthusiasts, the National Museum of Visual Arts showcases a wealth of Uruguayan talent. Efficient public transit options make navigating this charming neighborhood a breeze.

Dedicated to the national writer José Enrique Rodó, this lush green park on the city margins exists since the early 1900s. In style it resembles many of the parks in nearby Buenos Aires, as it was designed by the same French architect Carlos Thays.
After having stayed considerable time in the gloomy old city of Montevideo, this park is a relief. Beautiful shade rich trees line the small lake. Romantic small bridges and colourful shrubs, grassy spaces, overall pretty well maintained.
The entertainment sections (funfair, eateries and stalls with merchandise) are not really my thing.

Visited the Sunday market this week. Lots of stalls selling a variety of wares. There was entertainment in the park and some pop up food trucks. You can even rent pedal boats on the small lake.

I really liked the city, the hotel and the tours. I recommend the Punta Carretas neighborhood where the best shopping mall in the city is located. I visited Colonia de Sacramento and Punta del Este.

The most exciting thing about this park is the kitschy sculpture where an artist has mixed a suffering Jesus on the cross, the 12 disciples - AND the national poet José Enrique Rodó - into a religious-cultural mishmash.
It's incredible that Christian fundamentalists have let this pass without a fight.
The rest of the rather small park is not very exciting; only the complete lack of benches remains in memory after the visit.

Relatively large park with many tour and entertainment options, pedal boat, children's castle with library and workshops, snack bar, sports. Clean, pleasant, romantic place. The park is very close to the Rambla and is a good option to watch the sunset!

Please don't go at night
It is filled with homeless people
Bad lighting
Is not safe
During the day you see homeless people camping there who swarm and wander around the park all day asking for a
currency.
They hang their clothes on trees and occupy monuments.
A shame, beautiful park that was given to ex-convicts and drug addicts

If you have time to spare while at Montevideo, I would advise you to spend an afternoon of leisure at this beautiful park. Away from the Old City, you will find an oasis of calm among the greenery here. It's a good place to unwind and to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You will feel like you are at a countryside somewhere!

After hearing so much about the park, I was really disappointed yesterday when I took my brother for a visit. The lake had been drained for repairs and everything was a mess and the rubbish at the bottom of the lake was awful. Would definitely not recommend visiting until after repairs and clean up.

Que tan difícil es estacionar el auto en el parque a las 7:45am, porque voy a ir a la facultad de arquitectura y no sé dónde se puede dejar el coche
