We did a very scary horseback ride to these ruins. In fact my horse went down in a stream as we were crossing over one tiny stone slab. The horseback ride up from Ollantaytambo is not for the faint of heart for sure. FYI everyone...More

Hiked from Ollantaytambo to Pumamarka. A beautiful hike and a beautiful site. This site was built to resemble a puma's head. A part of the wall was built in a zigzag way to resemble the teeth. Pretty amazing as I have never seen something like...More

We hiked 6 miles up hill to visit, a challenging hike but well worth it, great views, walking through terraced fields gives good persepective on farming. Thr ruins temsleves are ok, interesting enough to make the hile worth it.

We went with our four children aged 14, 12, 8 and 6. We were driven to just beneath the ruins and we walked down to Ollantaytambo using the original Inca trail. The Pumamarca ruins are lovely and hardly visited so you may have the place...More

It's a super beautiful and very easy half day hike which almost no tourist knows. Highly recommend! We got an excellent description from one of the lodges in Ollantaytambo. Please see photos attached.

Writing this as warning on taking the trail, not road, behind the red house up to the ruins. I had read about the trail and a local pointed it out to me on my way walking up the road. I had some vague directions off...More

Visited this site on a private horseback tour arranged by La Casa del Abuelo. Very inexpensive, heavenly 4hrs excursion through eucalyptus groves, fields with bulls ploughing and Peruvian little ladies watching over sheep. Totally Zen! A must, even if you don’t speak Spanish, as the...More

The round-trip hike to the ruins of Pumamarca takes about 4-6 hours from Ollantaytambo on a moderate, steadily climbing trail. The ruins of Pumamarca sit on a hillside overlooking the convergence of the Río Patacancha and the Yuracmayo or White River. The well-preserved site was...More

Sorry have. But you should be able to. Make sure to inquire (at the hotel?) how much it should cost and don't go unless the driver agrees to that amount. That's quite a distance.

That's fine. It should be a nice walk. But do leave some time and energy to go up the hills and terraces, which is a steep climb. From up there, there are also trails to hike around.

i think it is a bit late to start, given that the days are shorter. You will miss the best time of day on the trail. Best to over night then walk up from town centre.
