Barranco is such a wonderful part of Lima and dare I say there are very few capital cities in the world with a barrio such as Barranco! Full of art, history, colour and right by the sea - you can imagine why when you're there it would have inspired a thousand writers, painters, poets and other artisans with their craft.

Within the centre, most of the buildings are of a saffron colour that is maintained to this day and though the global chain stores such as Starbucks, McDonalds etc are there - they all have to adhere to the local colour scheme so their presence is hardly registered at all.

Most tourists spend a day or two in Lima and spend it in either Miraflores or Barranco though there are many other nice parts of Lima but still - Barranco gives you plenty of bang for your buck - I recommend it thoroughly.

Nice area and easy too walk around. We were advised to keep off the beach as some areas are not so 'friendly'. Cafe's and restaurants are good and the walk to Miraflores is nice.

The art of Barranco is just beautiful! Loved walking the street and of course walking across the Bridge of Sighs holding our breath

We had a tour of this area while visiting Lima. We stayed in Miraflores but this would have also been an okay place to stay.

We strolled around this area on our recent visit to Lima and loved it. There were so many shops and restaurants and cafes to explore. The vibe was really lively and we enjoyed the area. There was also a good deal of street art there and it was really quite spectacular. I would be sure to visit this area when you are in Lima. We walked over there from Miraflores and it seemed like a reasonable and safe walk.

This area looks like San Francisco. It is hipster, cute and full of stores and restaurants. You can walk the "Malecon" from Barranco to Miraflores.

Awesome art and worth the time to explore. We spent the day milling around seeing the sights. Just so much to explore. We enjoyed the murals in the least expected places.

very arty and full of old buildings but access to beach is not easy or safe apparently so the hotel staff told us!
Some lovely restaurants we went too.
We took a coastal cliff path walk to Miraflores, this is a disappointment, so sanitised and full of wealthy obnoxious people compared to the ones we had met in the other parts of Peru we visited. Shopping malls with western shops at western prices!

This neighborhood is so trendy! There are a lot of beautiful murals throughout the neighborhood and so many cute restaurants and lounges. I wish I spent more time here but we had dinner reservations and just checked out a part of it. You can also walk to the outlook to see the ocean view.
