This church, its cloisters, and it’s catacombs are definitely worth your time. It’s a short walk from the main plaza in Lima and gives tours in several languages at least every hour. The church is dazzling, the cloisters and their paintings opulent, and the catacombs suitably creepy.

We visited the San Pedro Church on our walking tour of historic downtown Lima, booked on the Holland America ship Volendam. This is a beautiful church and certainly worth seeing. There is so much history in this city.

Inexpensive, filled with art shipped in from across the world and catacombs in the basement. If you are doing Central Lima, make sure this is on your itinerary.

Out of all the cathedrals and churches we visited in Lima. This one was spectacular and more of a feel of the local church. We were not bombarded with requests for a guide, we did not have to pay to get in, nor were there scads and scads of people trying to sell goods to us on our way in and out.

The church itself is wonderful and well preserved and quieter than other churches we visited so it was nice to sit and take it all in without a lot of distraction.

Not sure you could miss this church if you've a day in Lima as it's on every tour and in every tour book. It's a grand church with more gold gilt than I've seen almost anywhere, plenty of artistic detail and loads of history. As it's a free attraction and an easy one to do on your own - with a good guide book in hand - I'd definitely recommend time here if you are anywhere nearby.

very old church 100's of years old. They use to bury people way down below the church ( like 1000's of bodies). you get a guide to explain everything in the church. make sure you have time to do this tour.

Let me preface this review with a disclaimer: I have set foot in church rarely in my life. A couple of weddings (not my own) and a few sightseeing tours in various countries. Whilst I found this church interesting, I also found the some of the statuary/icons/whatever-you-call-'ems rather gruesome and a trifle disturbing. The Catholic church seems to have a fixation on the "suffering" bits of the Jesus story and not so much on the other 33 and how-ever-many years.

It is very fancy and extremely opulent so worth a quick look but I thought it was a tad grisly!

Beautiful building, ornate decor inside. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and showed us aspects that we would have ordinarily not noticed.

I thought the church was very interesting, as I have never been inside any catacombs before. Human skeletons and pits full of human skulls sort of give you an interesting feeling. Overall liked it, but felt like I was trespassing on many people's final resting place.
