Elegant and charming residential neighborhood located north of Lima features neo-classic architecture, cobblestone streets, excellent dining, good shopping and the Huaca Hallamarma, a restored pre-Inca pyramid that now serves as a small museum of Indian artifacts.

This is the most upscale neighborhood in Lima and the safest. It is full of nice hotels and restaurants and you can walk anywhere without being afraid. if you’re planning to stay in the city, this is the neighborhood you want to be.

We walked through the streets of San Isidro, shopped in the mall across from our hotel, and ate at some of the local places.

Very clean and safe. Several boutique shops and hotels. There also some good dining options. It is not a tourist area though, so not much to do in the specific district.

Even after dark this modern (financial) district just north of Miraflores is safe. If you are planning to arrive in Lima in the evening or even during the day look for a bus company that drops off or has a terminal here of close by (e.g. TRC). San Isidro is within walking distance of (low) budget accommodation in Miraflores. Avoid arriving in La Victoria the neighborhood just north of San Isidro, as that area is densely populated and security there is an issue.

The district of "San Isidro" is absolutely unmissable at any visit to Lima! This high-end area started to be populated in the early 1930's and, in more recent years, with the building of modern office towers, it became not only Lima's financial district, but also the favorite quarter for foreign embassies and consulates. "San Isidro" is definitely the place chosen by the rich and famous "limeños", including artists, authors and celebrities, to live, shop, dine and attend its most exclusive (and extremely beautiful) golf course! And last, but not least, it is also home of fantastic ancient ruins - the famous "Huaca Huallamarca" is another attraction of "San Isidro"! Enjoy!

So many well kept parks that go on for blocks backing up to some interesting shopping. This is
shopping of Peruvian designers and craftspeople in a more chic setting. Restaurants and some
larger department stores line the corners. The churches are open and lovely.

There are basically two good areas to be in Lima, one is San Isidro and the other one is Miraflores.

Half of the foreign embassies are located here and some of Lima's best restaurants and sports clubs. One of the tonier neighborhoods to live in. One of South America's oldest golf clubs is located right in the middle plus two famous churches, a museum or two and a great park full of hundred year old and older Oliver Trees.
