About
The Museo Larco is housed in an exquisite 18th century vice-royal mansion, built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The museum’s galleries exhibit the finest and most magnificent gold and jewelry treasures from Ancient Peru and the renowned erotic collection, one of Peru’s most celebrated attractions. Founded in 1926 and located in Lima, the Museo Larco holds the largest and most important archaeological collection of Ancient Peru in the world. Peru is known worldwide thanks to the legendary Inca Empire on the Andes Mountains; however few are aware that this society existed only for the last 100 years before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores. The Museo Larco portrays to the visitor an engaging narrative, recounting 5000 years in the development of Peru’s pre-Columbian history; thus becoming the ideal means to understand and enjoy Ancient Peru. On the Museum’s terraces overlooking its vibrant and stunning gardens, find Museo Larco´s Café restaurant, where one can savour the best of Peruvian and International cuisine. All in all, it’s accurate to say that to become fascinated by Peruvian history, the journey begins at Museo Larco!

This is one if not the one better museum in precolombian art I have visited in Latin America. It is privately owned. However, the entrance fee is moderate - about 30-40 soles- which relatively cheap to access a 5000 art pieces masterly displaced using museum glass, perfect lighting, description in about 5 languages. The display takes the visitor through the history of the ancient pre Inca history making one to fall in love with the culture and learning to admire such a richness. The erotica salle is as marvelous as the rest of the museum. The gardens are amazing and do the restaurant which has a limited selection of dishes but properly selected to provided visitors with a sample of the AMAZING peruvian gastronomy. I just want to go back again, today and tomorrow..

You can't miss this museum! Essential for anyone in Lima who is interested in pre-Columbian cultures!

The price is a little steep - 40 soles, in May 2024, but it's well worth it... For an additional 10 soles, you can participate in a guided tour in English or Spanish. I recommend you pay this extra amount! The guide Arianna told the history of the pieces with visible affection and also with impeccable English!

Guided tours happen frequently, I only had to wait half an hour to be able to go on one, in the meantime, I looked at the works.

The pre-Columbian erotic art sector will certainly entertain even those who turn their noses up at museums!

The Larco Museum was our stand-out attraction in Lima, by a long distance. In fact I think it is one of the best museums I have ever visited. As well as the main galleries, which dazzle with their displays of treasure, make sure you visit the extensive Visible Storage rooms which showcase an extraordinary array of 'spare' treasures.
The museum is housed in a 18th century mansion and set amid tranquil lawns and gardens. Restaurant looked good though we didn't eat here.

We just spent almost a full day at the Museo Larco, which has an amazing collection of pre-Inca artifacts.

What made the trip extra special was the guided tour with Jahssel. They did an amazing job weaving the relics into a memorable story. We lucked out because only two of us were on the 1:30 tour. Jahssel was both knowledgeable and fluent in English and answered questions very patiently.

The 10 soles we spent for each of us ended up being the best 20 soles of the trip. I highly recommend the guided tour. .

Very cool the museum! One of the best I've ever been. It presents several items with a very detailed description telling the history and region from where the pieces came. There is also a very interesting session of the files that are usually closed to the public and you can get in. It's absurd how much artifact they have. It takes between 1 and 2 hours depending on your pace. Accepts card without extra charge. There is discount for seniors and students.

Ana amazing collection of pre-Inca ceramics, textiles, metal items and of course the ‘erotic’ gallery. We took a tour with Johanna, an English speaking guide, who was excellent. The tour lasted about an hour and then we spent a further couple of hours examine the thousands of items before having an excellent lunch in the restaurant.
This really is a beautiful museum, a haven of tranquility in the heart of busy Lima.
Highly recommend a visit here

If you ask anyone in the UK what they know of Peru, they will probably say Incas and Macchu Pichu. The pre Inca history is amazing, and goes back over 5000 years. This museum houses a vast array of artefacts from that period. The permanent exhibition contains well displayed items mainly found in pyramids and burial chambers, and there is also a storeroom of pottery and ceramics open for visiting. We were lucky to have a guide, who showed us much of this (she used to be a history teacher, so really knew her stuff). If you don’t have a guide I would think. The audio guide would be a vital adjunct. We came out with our eyes open to a huge mass of Peruvian history that we had not previously heard of. I would reckon it to be a must do for anyone visiting Lima.

Educational museum about the pre-Hispanic history of Peru. Different cultures are discussed, such as the Nazca, the Moche, the Inca and the Chancay.
Everything is beautifully arranged, you admire fine sculptures, jewelry, pottery.
In a separate room you can admire the erotic art collection, which also highlights ancient Peruvian ideas.

Jewels in ceramics and goldsmiths are displayed in a vast conglomeration of Andean cultures (Mochica, Chimú, Chancay, etc.) that masterfully elaborate from the striking ceremonial "Tumi", funeral trousers, crowns, ceremonial vessels, narigueras to erotic representations.
Ritual artistic expression, votive and worldview in fine golden elaboration, in silver, copper, tomb, quartz or turquoise.
Admirable collection of the Larco Museum in Lima, Peru, whose visit I share.
My recommendation is that you visit the Museum cellar there are interesting pieces on display.
Enjoy Museo Larco because: LIFE...is a JOURNEY!

Nice Museum - Nice Artifacts, some very Erogenous

Took an Uber from our Hotel. Maybe $10 to get in.

Lots of Peruvian artifacts, sculptures, pots, jewelry and more.

There is a video to explain what you are seeing. There are guided tours, but we did it on our own.

Nice Museum in Lima, but preferred the Cathedral/Museum over this place. Still worth seeing. The erogenous items are a sight to behold...lol

There is a restaurant there, but we opted for something a bit more native to the area in Kennedy Park.
