This busy plaza is the historic center of the city and worth a stroll around. Time it so that you can see the changing of the guard.

I came here with a Mirabus tour that provided decent english commentary. There are some street vendors, but they are not too pushy.

The Governor's Palace overlooks this grand central plaza. Go at noon to see the 20 minute changing of the guard ceremony.

The Plaza is nice and there a lot of things to see. Since the traffic is so horrible in downtown Lima, I would recommend to take a taxi to a spot and then from there walk. Or take the buses. The buses have their own lanes and can move much faster then any car or taxi.

Definitely get out of miraflores and visit down town. I went when the guards were changing, which is a very serious ceremony which then turned into a round of happy birthday music for a guard. Really surprising but good fun.

That's about it. Kind of nice area to walk in but I wouldn't plan a day around it. Some good little cafes and chocolate museum nearby.
