When I read about the floating neighborhood of belen I wanted to see it. But I did not imagine that this was not a good season to ride a boat around the neighborhood. However it was good to visit this place.

Interesting to visit, but in the other hand sad to see how poorly people live there without any perspektives. Do it with a guide who also offers a trip by boat to get the full experience of Belen.

The Belen Market is a great, huge, third world outdoor “super” market that covers 20 blocks or more. Everything that can be bought or sold, is bought and sold there.

Upper Belen houses the market which is the biggest, most chaotic and manic place you can imagine. It’s largely a local food market, seething with people and just about everything is available there. On the lower level is the residential area of Belen (by far...More

We're sitting in Green Go (a delicious local restaurant) after a walk through Belen in the afternoon. It is a very authentic market; by that I mean there is a variety of things, from clothes (real and fake), to fruits, to fresh meat, to ceremonial...More

The Amazonian Venice is a challenging place of great interest and liveliness combined with acute poverty. We went by boat and thus saw it from the water upwards. Recommended to gain an insight into the lifestyle of so many.

A nice place to find a large variety of Amazonian vegetables and fruits, I personally liked it, the streets are not as clean as they need to be but topically from a river port type of local open market. A must see place to visit,...More

Lots of things to see, smell and buy. Good prices on food(produce). I never tried the cooked food and don’t know if I would. Lots of people there so be aware of your surroundings and items. Caught a little boy trying to pick pocket me,...More

Our guide, (Augusto from Amazon Green Treasure,) took us here prior to our Amazon adventure, and I'm so glad we had a guide. The market is a maze, and it was nice to have a guide point out the unique things at the market. If...More

You won't have any trouble in engaging a reliable guide in Iquitos: your hotel will help you. BTW, I really like the Victoria Regia for a hotel -- owner Carlos Acosta is very helpful.
