I spent a few hours wandering around the market here. It was very busy, lots of interesting things to see. Not a great deal different to many of the 3rd world markets I have seen elsewhere, but nevertheless well worth a visit.

Belen is a microcosm of life in general. It is bustling and chaotic and all the ups and downs you can imagine. The size of the market is immense it would be super easy to get lost. We were told by locals that the market...More

an incredible neighborhood you can live the proximity of the people and their way of living so simple, the tour really took me here and I could meet the Iquitos veerdadero

Our hotel hooked us up with a guide and I’m so glad they did. We loved the market but without a guide we would not have gotten to enjoy ourselves as much or understand about all the items being sold. It is muddy and crowded,...More

I went into the market quite early and it was already starting to get busy. If you go in, head with an open mind having regard to the people living there. I found it a bit full on and probably wouldn’t have gone in had...More

Wow - We were warning not to go to the Market by a local Policeman. However, ignoring his advice we went. What an experience. The Vast array of produce on display is mind blowing. If you do go don't let the smells and sights impede...More

Belén does give a serious, authentic and very interesting impression of local way of life, very much in contrast to what´s shown to tourists and travellers in general, the real world in this very important Amazon marketplace (very much in contrast to the on-line giant,...More

When I read about the floating neighborhood of belen I wanted to see it. But I did not imagine that this was not a good season to ride a boat around the neighborhood. However it was good to visit this place.

Interesting to visit, but in the other hand sad to see how poorly people live there without any perspektives. Do it with a guide who also offers a trip by boat to get the full experience of Belen.

The Belen Market is a great, huge, third world outdoor “super” market that covers 20 blocks or more. Everything that can be bought or sold, is bought and sold there.

You won't have any trouble in engaging a reliable guide in Iquitos: your hotel will help you. BTW, I really like the Victoria Regia for a hotel -- owner Carlos Acosta is very helpful.
