Visited the Salineras and talked to the co-op members -since pre-Inca times, families have passed on the rights to mine the evaporation salt ponds. Don't miss it!

This was a unique place in the Sacred Valley of Peru. They have been using this place to harvest salt for over 500 years. A beautiful landscape of small ponds on a hill side. I spent a couple of hours walking around and taking pictures.

If there you need to choose a place where you don't need to go, this is it. All you do is walk around beside salt pools (watch out you can fall!!!) and then buy stuff made of salt. Nothing special. Don't go if you are...More

Never seen anything quite like this. Extensive series of terraced salt pools with a dramatic mountain background. Worth a visit. Would avoid walking the road to access the mines unless you don't mind eating the dust of the many passing vehicles.

Entrance to the salt mine is only 10 soles so if you get there like I did with the atv tour there is really no reason not to cough up the additional $3. The sight is quite impressive

Awesome place with a great view of the salt mines. It is worth going to see the white pools of salt. It is located near Urubamba.

We loved seeing the salineras - the views of it are amazing! It is also really interesting to see how the salt is made/collected. Really glad we went!

We really enjoyed this visit to an active salt mine that has been in use since the time of the Incas. Our Gate-1 guides provided so much historical and geological perspective. We highly recommend a guide. The place is beautiful and the variety of salts...More
