Impressive place between the mountains where you can see how the Peruvians extract salt from the underground water through a terrace system that due to the amount and color of all of them gives a unique view to the valley

It's a bumpy ride followed by an narrow descent into the head of the valley where the salt laiden water springs from the mountain. Channelled into hundreds of individual ponds. It makes for some creative photography particularly if the local people in their bright clothes...More

This place is a must go! It is amazing to see how Mother Earth provide us with wonderful and abundant resources! The water comes down from a natural spring in the mountain and it is directed to hundreds of shallow pools to collect the salt....More

4000 salt ponds coming together to become a huge area of salt mining. The colors of this place was amazing. I highly recommend to see this place.

Salt producing place near the Maras town. It is an amazing place where salty mountains and natural running water meet and salt is extracted. Hard to get there place (non-paved roads). Highly recommend it. Don't forget to stop in Maras town and have some Chicha...More

Salinas de Maras is one of those places that you'll be happy you visited. There are hundreds of salt pools that are breathtaking to see. As you saunter through the site you will likely see locals harvesting the salt.

There is 3 types of salt. One for consomption, the second also for your kitchen but larger and the third for your body and health. Bought the 3 rd catégorie 10 soles for 3 kg.
