Overview
More
The most comprehensive collection of Inca artifacts from Machu Picchu in the world. There are 366 museum-quality objects displayed in a colonial building that dates back to the 18th century. To truly understand the Inca culture, one must visit Machu PIcchu and the Casa Concha Museum. The museum provides insights into the daily life at Machu Picchu and an overview of the landscape and challenges the Inca's faced there. This is a must-see before (or after) visiting Machu Picchu The collection of artifacts at Casa Concha was returned by Yale University in 2011, and includes more than 30-thousand additional fragments of pottery, stonework, jewelry that are not suitable for display at this time. Those fragments are being kept in storage to be studied by local and international researchers. This collection of antiquities was housed at Yale's Peabody Museum for almost 100 years, before being returned home to Peru in 2011. The exhibition also has more Inka artifacts that were discovered during the archeological excavations during the process of the restauration of the Casa Concha.

I was surprised it was free, the art exhibits I saw there were quite cool and very different from the ruins and historic art. It’s a great stop in at lunch or before dinner. Really enjoyable.

Go here either before or after visiting Machu Pichu to get the whole story of how the site was discovered and uncovered, the meaning of it, and a lot of what was recovered in excavating and developing Machu Pichu. Admirably curated and displayed.
