- michael k4 contributionsGreat locally owned companyThe team are all from Peru which is amazing to be supporting locals. I can only echo what the reviews before me have said. The overall experience with Local Trekkers Peru was outstanding and we are so happy we booked with them. I agree with my fellow reviewers that it can be very hard to chose a guiding company for Macchu Picchu as there are lots of companies and the styles of the guides can very widely. We had Robert, who was an extraordinary guide; proud of his culture and eager to share it, respectful of the quiet and contemplative nature of hiking yet friendly amd conversent when it made sense. He kept a great team spirit in the group while catering to everyone’s needs (and speeds) on thr trail. We literally couldn’t have asked for a better experience…:and the pictures! He knew all the good spots and helped us take thr pictures of a lifetime to remember the trip of a lifetime. Our cook and porter team was also world class and went above and beyond. I will also sus remember the incredibly delicious and well presented meals we had each and every mealtime. Look no further- these guys are the best in breed!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 October 2023
- Moss1 contributionThe Best Inca Trail with Local Trekkers PeruOur Inca Trail to MachuPicchu, with Local Trekkers Peru, exceeded our expectations, everything was very well planned from start to finish and the person behind all this is Mr. Alberto, the Manager and Coordinator of this company. Alberto sent with us Roberto as our guide and Paulino as our cook and of course 12 Porters who accompanied us during these 4 days. Roberto our guide is very experienced on this route, he even knew the guards and other guides from other companies and we saw the respect and admiration they had for him. We learned a lot with him, about the culture, history, ecosystems and above all about MachuPicchu, if you book with this company, don't forget to ask for Roberto as your guide, you won't regret it. Paulino in the kitchen was another of the people that I could not fail to mention, simply wonderful at his job, the food was very delicious, fresh and abundant, thanks to him we never felt hungry, bravo Paulino. Finally, thank everyone at Local Trekkers Peru, (Alberto, Roberto, Paulino and Porters) for making our Inca trail the perfect mix of fun and learning.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2023
- A Hauxwell1 contribution5* Local Trekkers Peru ExperienceI had heard about Local Trekkers Peru online from those who had previously went with the company and had spoken highly of them. I am so glad I had chosen to do my 4D/3N Inca trail with Local Trekkers Peru as the level of professionalism is unmatched. After completing the hike, it’s apparent just how much effort goes into the planning, preparation and execution before, during and after the trek. All I had to do was provide my details, and the rest was sorted for me from permits, to all modes of transport, all food and gear, and so much more! A big special mention to the fabulous team who had made a dream of visiting Machu Picchu a reality: Our wonderful guide, Wuil, who explained in the greatest detail the history of Inca’s in Peru and the fantastic landscape as we trekked through it over the four days. His patience, encouragement and positive attitude was a delight. Paulino our chief porter and the entire team of porters who assisted us over the duration of our trek. Always very positive and encouraging despite being the backbone of the trek and literally carrying the weight- these men are superhuman! And our wonderful head chef, Cristobal, who worked tirelessly every day to ensure that not only were we incredibly full for each meal but each and every dish was different from the last- tasted incredible and true Peruvian cuisine. He even managed to bake a chocolate cake in the jungle on the last night. 1000/1000 for Local Trekkers, if I am ever lucky enough to visit for a second time I will choose them over and over again.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 January 2024
- Ana Lucia SHelsinki, Finland6 contributionsWhat an AMAZING trek with ORANGE Nation Peru!!What an AMAZING trek experience and accomplishment thanks to Orange Nation Peru!!! We did the 4 day classic Inca Trail bythe end of January and would do it again! From the start, Orange Nation Peru was great at communicating with me and their online site has all the info needed. We met our guide, Julio, at the pre-trek meeting where he briefed us. They picked me up at my hostel the morning of; the bus was nice, spacious, clean. Each day’s hike was intense but BEAUTIFUL and there were multiple breaks to rest, use the restroom, buy things from the locals on the trail, or for Julio to teach us things. When we arrived at our campsites, they were all set up and we even had water bowls to wash up with or soak our feet in. The porters were amazing as they carried our bags, ran the trail, and still had positive attitudes and energy during the down time. All meals on the trip were so so delicious and abundant in food! Our chef, Mario, was incredible and even (somehow) baked me a cake for my birthday! The day of Machu Picchu was wonderful and although there were strikes and changes and we weren’t sure which plan we’d have to take, our guide made sure we had plans and kept us safe and in the loop. We did this trip as a couple but came out of it with a little family. If you’re thinking about doing the hike, DO IT! And make sure you do it through ORANGE Nation PeruVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 February 2024
- Kevin ACuyahoga Falls, Ohio136 contributionsGreat scenery. Worth it at any age.Hiked the trail in 2019 and like all tours there went with a tour group, G Adventures. 4 days, 3 nights. Start at just under 10,000 feet to Dead Woman's pass at 13769 feet. Was unsure whether, at 64, I could sleep well in a tent. No problem, exhausted in a good way each night. Beautiful scenery. Take your time, pace yourself, enjoy!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 March 2024

The views are breathtaking including glaciers, Inca ruins, jungle and the clearest starry nights. The hike is tough in places but if you prepare by doing some cardiovascular training and take your time it is definitely achievable for most.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 April 2024
- Happy TravellerGlasgow, United Kingdom21 contributionsSpectacularWe went on the two-day Inca Trail doing the last section of the trail on day 1, spent the night in Machu Picchu City, and then toured the site on the morning of day 2. there were four of us, three German hikers, and Hymie our guide. The experience was fantastic with Hymie ensuring we paced ourselves on the trail . The reward at the end of the hike was the view from the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu. It is is awesome and the detailed tour the next day confirmed for me how spectacular the place is.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 April 2024
- Manel Sergi LasherasCentral Poland, Poland1 contributionInca Trail is undoubtedly one of the best treks in the worldI went with some friends on a trek with this company Terra Quechua Peru. We had the most amazing experience of our lives on the Inca Trail. Our guide was Jerson, funny, efficient, friendly, and handled our group with a lot of quality and experience. Our chef made wonderful meals and was also very helpful and friendly. The trail is challenging and a certain level of fitness will make it much more enjoyable.for me, the highlight was hiking through an incredible variety of contrasting microclimates. Walking through cloud forests, rainforests, deep arid valleys, along river rapids and steep climbs. Waking up to hummingbirds, watching condors along the trail, orchids and air plants growing wild and a llama at every photo spot. Of course, the amazing Inca archaeology, only accessible to those on the Inca Trail, was mind-blowingVisited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 May 2024
- SETH T1 contributionThe Inca Trail crosses diverse ecosystems.I had the privilege of going to Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail for 4 days, accompanied by the professional team of Terra Quechua Peru, an excellent guide, an excellent cook and a group of porters second to none, from start to finish it was a perfect experience, they took great care of us and explained everything. The Inca Trail trek is not only a physical journey, but also a deep connection with history and nature. Each step on the trail reveals the magnificence of the Inca civilisation and the majesty of the Peruvian Andes. It is a transformative experience that leaves lasting impressions in the memory of those who take it.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 June 2024

I want to thank infinitely the guide Robert, he was fantastic, lively, patient and always concerned to provide all the relevant information...I had many doubts and never imagined it could be so difficult. It is a good hike An experience of a lifetime, the trail is amazing, the landscapes are incredible, there are many archaeological sites on the way to Machu Picchu, my favourite was the sun gate (inti punku). I heard someone complaining that it was too crowded, but the truth is, we didn't see many people even walking, and yes, once you get to the city, it's crowded, but it's worth it. A unique memory. Thanks to all the Terra Quechua Peru team.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 June 2024

We just came back from an amazing experience during the Inca Trail to Machupicchu with the team of Local Trekkers Peru, our guide Lobo, our cook Timoteo and our porters were very helpfull. Lobo has a great knowledge of the environment he could explain us a lot about the mountains, the locals and about the Inca culture, we learned a lot with him. We definitely had a good time and enjoyed the wonderful views during this trekking. Lobo really succeed in giving us the best time of our lives. Timoteo cooked the best meals that we tasted during our stay in Cusco, beautifully decorated and plentiful for everyone in the group. We were 6 people in total, all family. We planned this walk in 2019 to do it in 2020 but with the pandemic, all plans changed radically, but fortunately Alberto, the person behind Local Trekkers Peru He gave us the opportunity to change our travel date for this year 2021 even for the entire year 2022, but we decided to do it this year since we saw that things in Peru and especially in the world are improving. Alberto together with the Local Trekkers Peru Team, did a great job
they really deserve a 5 star rating both for the reservation process, the flexibility of changing the date and for the operation throughout the hike. Do not hesitate to contact them you will not regret!!!.

My friends and I booked a classic 4 days Inka Trail with Local Trekkers Peru and it was incredibly very well arranged, they were ver helpful throughout the booking and made the whole process a breeze.
During the Trail our guide Hendri was outstanding, we had some great laughs together and he really looked out for us when we got sick. He handled all of the campsites, food orders and found us the best campsites along the way. Always with a big smile and a sense of humour. also he is very well informed about the Peruvian Andes, he always told us some stories about the Incas, once in Machupicchu, he took us to another level with his explanation about this amazing Inca city Thanks Amigo!!!.
Local Trekkers Peru, They take great care of his clients, they provided us with enough porters to make this trip easier, and let me tell you that these guys will take all our admiration since without them none of this amazing experience would have been possible, they were the owners of the show. Also we had enough food for our group very well prepared, tasty and varied, Cristobal our cookman was Fantastic he was always in good mood, thanks to him we don’t worry at all about food, he is a genius.
Finally I can't recommend this company and these guys highly enough. Seriously, look no further.

In 8 days of seeing all of the best that the Cuzco and the Sacred Valley have to offer, our best experience, by far, was the one day hike on the Inca Trail from KM104 to Machu Picchu. Our outstanding Peruvian experience was expertly planned by the amazing team from Peruvian Soul (HIGHLY recommend!). We decided to do the hike at the last minute (instead of taking the train to Machu Picchu) and the Peruvian Soul team got the permits, guides and tickets and made it happen. They wisely recommended 2 guides - one for our very fit four kids ages 19, 18, 16 and 16, and another for mom and dad (ages 57 and 59 and not super hikers). The kids, who grumbled about having to “work” so hard on vacation ultimately loved the experience, supported one another and really bonded on the hike. The parents struggled at times but our incredibly patient guide got us through and we are so grateful that he did. It is definitely NOT easy, but it is doable and so very worth it! We gained a strong connection to majesty of the Inca Trail in a way that can only be accomplished by pushing through it- all the ups, downs, steps and altitude.

We did the Classic inca trail with Local Trekkers and we could not have asked for a better experience! Alberto, the main man of this company, is very helpful and kind during the reservation process, during the walk and also after returning home, he was always aware of everything and everything promised was fulfilled. Our guides were Wilber and Daniel Kirki who went out of their way to make sure everything was well organized during the trek. The tea times, the campsites, the times and rhythms of the hike were very well managed by these two guys In addition to being very professional in their work, very well informed, they have a lot of knowledge of history, landscapes, and especially Machu Picchu, the two of them were the perfect pair without contradicting each other. Mr. Timoteo was our cook and we were never so well served during our entire stay in Cusco, up to five different dishes served at each lunch and dinner, he truly is a master chef. finally thank our porters whose names I remember some of them (Rogelio, Walter, Exalta, etc.) without them this would not be possible.
I highly recommend both the Inca Trail to MachuPicchu and Local Trekkers Peru company for everyone who is looking to organize this great hike.
You won’t be disappointed!!!

We just completed the 4 day Inca Trail with my friends and it was a fantastic tour, Terra Quechua Peru company is highly recommended, perfect organization, and adequate schedules without loss of time but without stress or rushing, our guide was wonderful, always positive and spoke English fluently. He was very knowledgeable about biology, altitude sickness, history, religion and all things Inca. Dennis was our chef who prepared amazing four course restaurant quality meals for every lunch and dinner. We never went hungry and everything was delicious.all the staff and porters at Terra Quechua Peru had ready smiles and endless patience, I highly recommend Terra Quechua Peru for your next adventure.

We recently completed the 4 day Classic Inca Trail with Terra Quechua Peru, providing the most incredible experience imaginable. They provided adequate information before each day and were genuinely concerned about our well being.
Our tour guide Aldair was amazing, there was nothing about the Inca Trail that he didn't know and even gave us some recommendations for the rest of our time in Peru. ! We felt he went above and beyond the duties of a tour guide.
The porters do a fantastic job of carrying our stuff, organizing a campsite and ensuring our stay is perfect, they all deserve a medal! Also, unlike other tour operators, Terra Quechua ensures that you do not exceed the maximum weight limit.
Food .... . where do we start! ! It was amazing. One day we had fresh fruit and pancakes for breakfast, lunch we had the best guacamole I have ever tasted, followed by soup and rainbow trout, we arrived at camp after a long day at tea time which consisted of a snack like popcorn and hot drinks and then at night we had dinner, which was always amazing and the portion sizes were enormous!
The hike was challenging and you definitely need a shower at the end, but it's worth it! Highly recommended.

I want to share my experience of the incredible 4-day Inca Trail trek I did with my university friends, and I recommend Terra Quechua Peru 👈‼️highly enough as the best agency to undertake this thrilling journey. From the very beginning, the team provided exceptional support, ensuring that every detail of our trip was taken care of. They equipped us with all the necessary information about the trek, including recommended gear and acclimatization tips. Their professionalism was evident at every step, from the expert guides who shared fascinating stories about Inca culture to the chefs who amazed us with delicious meals in the heart of the mountains.
The experience of the Inca Trail was truly transformative. Over four days, we hiked through stunning landscapes, from lush cloud forests to majestic valleys, and passed by ancient archaeological sites that made us feel the history with every step. Each night, we camped in setups that exceeded our expectations, and the camaraderie of the group made each day even more special. The highlight, of course, was witnessing the sunrise over Machu Picchu, which left us breathless.
I wholeheartedly recommend Terra Quechua Peru for anyone seeking an authentic and well-organized experience on this magical path to the lost city of the Incas. It’s an adventure I will remember forever!

Evolution came highly recommended by friends who had done this tour with them in 2023. We knew we were in good hands from the moment we contacted them and went ahead and booked a 5-day tour on the Inca Trail, as well as the Rainbow Mountain (we love rainbows, lol) and other tours such as the Sacred Valley and full-day city tours in Lima and Cusco. Everything went perfectly from the moment we landed in Cusco until we were dropped off at our hotel after we finished the Inca Trail tour.
Their staff were not only friendly but also supportive, respectful, and genuinely kind. Rudi was the best guide ever—a man who loves the mountains and cares for everyone in the group. He stayed next to one of our group members for almost the entire trip to ensure they completed the trail safely. Additionally, Rudi provided us with an amazing set of presentations about the Inca Trail, Peru, Machu Picchu, and everything else he could talk about while on the trail. We felt well-educated by the end of the tour.
Perhaps the most important takeaway was how this company fights to improve the working conditions for their porters. It is truly inspiring to see how they treat them with all the respect and dignity they deserve. We felt truly inspired and blessed by the company of these porters and Rudi. Evolution is by far the best company on the Inca Trail.

Oouf where to start. The Inca Trail was a wonderful, extremely demanding moment for my sister and me. I am so grateful to have had the chance to do this expedition with such an amazing team. From the porters who run all the way to arrived before us so that when we arrive at a camp after a day's walk, everything is ready for us. Or when they all gather together to applaud us each time we arrive at dinner or camp. We won't lie, this hike is demanding, but the little encouragement each time one of our porters passes in front of us, encourage us not to give up. And our incredible guide Yeicob… during all the hike he was extremely careful of us. Whether it was when he was waiting for us despite our slowness, when he repeated all the history of the archaeological sites in English for us, when he made us laugh or when he encouraged us to continue. I could go on for a long time but he made our experience more than just an experience. My sister and I had noticed that we had chosen a great agency to do this Trail. Because yes, many agencies offer this service but I can say that ours was a favorite. All the memories with which we leave, ouff. It was a family during these 4 days and we realize it especially when it's over and we cry because we don't want to leave them. I can't thank enough the porters and our guide for these 4 days. I also want to thank the incredible chef who during these 4 days made us incredible and delicious dishes!
Thank you AB for this experience!

My friend and I are planning a trip and the booking date options we have are next September or October. In October would the trial be more slippery? Is the October wetter/cloudier weather more likely to spoil some of the views? Please could anyone help us decide which date to book?

When we visited Machu Pichu, we went by train and bus. We could see a part of the Inca Trail over the mountains and it looked narrow and steep. The mosquitoes were everywhere while we were there in October. Be sure to take something that you can put on as a protection. You might also think of what you would take with you on a trail going up and down steep mountains. What you would need to sleep and toiletries. You will also need to carry your food and water.

Hola.

I'm planning a trip on the Inca Trail in mid-December, I'm wondering which tour operators are best for a budget minded solo traveler. It'd be good to go with a local operator that offers optional side trips. I had been looking at a 4 day/ 3 night trek but am also considering alternate routes like the Salkantay trek and trips of shorter lengths. It seems like there's such a wide variety of trips and the prices fluctuate drastically. I don't mind roughing it a bit but would like good food. From what I've read, the trips book up quickly during the high season, but since December is off season I'm wondering if I should wait to buy a ticket. I can speak Spanish and am very interested in the history and cultural aspects featured on a tour. I'd appreciate any recommendations and am wondering if it'd be best to book something while I'm down in Cuzco instead of paying more to book in advance.

We booked with Kaypi Peru Tours. They were wonderful.
My understanding is that tickets sell out quickly. I personally would not risk waiting until I was there for fear I would not get the opportunity to see Macchu Picchu.
