We really enjoyed our trip to Peru and used Intense Peru after a friend recommended it. Most everything about the trip (flights, hotels, meals and guides) was excellent. And even our travel during rainy season meant smaller crowds.
We had originally tried to book with an on line agency when my friend suggested intense. Despite a nearly identical itinerary, working with Sophia and Intense was far more economical. I would highly recommend using intense for travel to Peru. .

Ultimate customer service from beginning to end. I was referred by a coworker and didn't want to do any research planning (the lazy option). I emailed Sofia and said I wanted a 9 day trip that covered both Machu Picchu/Cusco and the Amazon. Less than a week later, I had a fully customized 9 day itinerary. I was booking this trip for my mom's 60th birthday. We did 3 nights in the Sacred Valley, 2 in Cusco and 3 at the Tambopata Research Center. The itinerary was perfect - we felt like the amount of time in each location was great - long enough to settle but not too long where you felt bored or it was dragging on. That's what you expect from local experts.
We paid a nominal extra fee for a private service, which I highly recommend. We had a great driver, Edwin, and a phenomenal guide, Sarita. I have traveled extensively with many guides and Sarita is hands down the best I've ever had in terms of professionalism, knowledge, conversation and friendliness. They were always on time, had a fresh bottle of water waiting, were perceptive on how much time we wanted to spend at ruins (i.e. didn't force a long tour if we were tired or uninterested), while also accommodating any special requests.
The above and beyond service was shown by Sarita carrying a suspicious box with her the entire journey to Machu Picchu. And at the main view point, revealing a local brownie and birthday candle so my mom could celebrate her 60th at the top - unreal! We were then surprised with another cake at lunch after we went down. And again, when Saria/Sofia gave my mom a gift upon our departure to Puerto Maldonado.
We had issues when our flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado was delayed, meaning we couldn't make it to the Tambopata Research Center that night (the guides cannot safely navigate the river after dark). However, Sofia was in constant communication and worked with the Rainforest Expeditions team to get us to the Refugio lodge, ensuring we spent the night in the Amazon and not in Puerto Maldonado.
I usually plan my own trips extensively - this was the first one where I let the reins go and was very apprehensive about how it would go. However, I cannot recommend this service enough. Thank you especially to Sarita, a truly phenomenal guide and friend, Edwin for ensuring safety on the roads and Sofia for planning and facilitating the whole trip.

Intense Peru is a 5 star agency. The service and communication from day one was excellent. The itinerary was planned considering our preferences and even when we decided to change some activities at the last minute, everything was done perfectly and without any problems. The tourist guides, excellent, Liz in Arequipa, Ursula in Lima and Karina in Cusco, super friendly, and always on time, the same transportation, we always feel safe and calm. At the end of our 12-day journey we all ended up happy. If you want a smooth trip and to enjoy I recommend Intense Peru. They will not regret it and will use your services more than once. I'm gonna do it. I was promised a "Worry-Free Trips" experience and it was exactly what Intense did for us. Customer for life.

From the moment we arrived in Lima for our Peruvian adventure, we had the best experience ever.
The arrangements made by Sophia and her company ‘Intense Peru’, were impeccable - our itinerary was clear and detailed.
All airport, bus, train and hotel pick-ups were punctual.
All travel documents, food and hotel vouchers, and tour tickets were issued in good time.
The tour guides were marvellous - fluent in English, knowledgeable, informative, attentive, amusing and so pleasant and personable.
Our holiday couldn’t have been better and we send our thanks to Sophia and her team, and would recommend her to anyone planning to travel in Peru.

Peru and Machu Picchu have long been bucket list items for my wife and myself. We finally found the time this year and utilized Intense Peru to plan our 19-day itinerary for us, with an emphasis on Peru's ancient history. Sofia's input was always excellent. We were able to visit all the sites we'd always hoped to see as well as others we didn't know we wanted to see until we got there. Our guides were all knowledgeable and very responsive to our interests and needs. The accommodations were excellent as were the included meals. We will never forget our time in Peru and would highly recommend the services of Intense Peru to anyone with similar interests.

Excellent experience from booking until coming home. Sofia is very knowledgeable and provided invaluable advice while building our customized itinerary. Sarita, our guide, spoke impeccable English and was very accommodating with changes. The hotels were excellent and the Macchu Pichu is experience out of this world. We did the abbreviated Inca trail and had the opportunity to visit ruins out of the beaten path. Overall, an outstanding experience. Cannot wait to go back to visit more of Peru.

We spent two weeks in Peru seeing Lima, the Amazon, Machu Pichu, and Cusco. Sofia and her team created a wonderful itinerary for us with excellent drivers and guides, as well as luxury hotels. They even provided a delicious boxed lunch for our drive from Cusco to the Sacred Valley. When our flight was delayed 24 hours making our plan to go to Paracas impossible, Sofia was there to assist us with new plans. Intense Peru offers exceptional, personalized services and I highly recommend them for all your travel needs in Peru!

October 2023 is decided, we are going to Peru for the summer of 2024!
Two questions immediately arrive: what to see and with which agency to go?
First answer obtained by purchasing the Lonely Planet Guide “The Essentials of Peru” which presents the must-see places to visit.
Second more delicate answer, after many Internet searches between traditional and local operators.
I arrive on the site of Intense Peru which offers several typical circuits meeting our expectations.
After several exchanges with Sofia, the manager, we arrive on a complete three-week journey totally personalized.
We review everything in detail: itinerary - Things to do - transport - accommodation
With each revision, we receive the updated roadbook describing the stay.
Arriving in Lima, we were taken care of from the airport to the return flight to Paris.
We had preferred French guides. We were lucky to have these guides on almost the entire stay as we had booked very early.
We took full advantage of the trip thanks to our guides who explained the sites visited (thanks to them all, you made us live Peruvian culture) and our drivers who assured us quality transfers between the different stages (thanks for the smooth driving on sometimes bumpy roads!).
The Intense Peru team was always available to answer our questions and followed us throughout the stay to make sure everything went smoothly.
A big thank you to Sofia and all her team!
From this long stay, here are some tips:
The backpack is your best friend
Essential object of this stay, you take it everywhere with you.
Water, hat, clothes, camera.....
- dress like "onion"
Technical clothing and multilayer are to be preferred.
We spend our time getting dressed and undressed depending on Things to do and the temperature... hence the interest of the backpack.
- Beware of the altitude
In Peru, we are quickly in altitude and high mountains for Europeans.
On our 3 weeks of stay, we spent 2 weeks at more than 3000 meters altitude.
Our record is the passage of a pass at more than 4900 meters to reach the valley of Colca!
Take breaks
All the routes offered by the agencies are particularly busy. You can’t really enjoy the place and you also need to recover from long transfers between sites.
With Sofia, we organized the stay so that we could rest a day in Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. The whole family enjoyed these moments of rest allowing also to stroll quietly in the cities.
- Give preference to private transfers
Peru is big and we ride a lot. Being able to enjoy private transfers is a real plus that deserves the investment.
Very good stay to those who will try the adventure.
Peru is magical!

We had the most wonderful time in Peru. Sofia planned and executed our itinerary perfectly. From leaving New York to landing back in New York, things went smoothly. Our guides Martha in Lima and Karina for 5 days from Ollantaytambo to departure from Qosqo (Cuzco) were both wonderful. Karina gave us the most knowledgable trip including a gorgeous picnic in the most rustic valley in the hills of Andes. Jorge ensured we were safely transported from place to place and would appear almost magically when we could walk no more. In short it was the most intense dive into the Quechua culture that goes way before the Inca. Thank you Sofia and team for a most memorable experience.

I have travelled to nearly 70 countries, mostly per my own arrangement. This is my first time ever to use an agency to arrange for my travel, because I'm in a busy stage of work, making arrangement on my own quite challenging. I went in with a bit of nerve, unsure of what experience I would get and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first about whether the "extra price" I paid for the arranged tour (versus if I did all on my own as usual) was well worth it or not.
As a result, I've got to say I am very pleased, from transportation, hotel to activities are very well selected, with a combination of comfort and luxury and especially often I feel like I have a different service compared to many group tours I saw on the road. For example, the driver took me to places that group tours don't often take their clients too. The flexibility to accommodate for my changing needs (as I'm still working while travelling, thus sometimes late starts in morning or schedule changes) is very well received and supported by the team.
Given my first experience already like this, it will be hard to see if anything better would come afterwards. Thanks so much to Sofia and the entire team for taking good care of me throughout two weeks.
