I booked my second trip to Peru with Matt at South Andes Travel (Visited in 2017 originally). I used them again due to how well my itinerary was pulled together to meet my needs. Regardless of budget or preferences they will find the right hotels, trips and connect you to the best guides where needed. It takes all the worry and stress out of your trip. They have a clear knowledge of Peru and have many contacts. I literally booked an international flight and let them do all the rest of the planning! During the planning process Matt always kept me updated asking for feedback before confirming final itinerary.
I visited Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, Arequipa and Colca Canyon. Matt was my guide for most of this and he was knowledgeable and gave plenty information on local areas and traditions along the way. The cars and drivers supplied were always to a high standard and this allowed you to see more instead of sitting on a tour bus stopping at all the usual spots. This is where Matt's local knowledge comes in and you get to stop at more local places such as a corn beer pub, really interesting and the beer was great!
Matt and his team are all clearly passionate about what they do and this shows when you meet them, I also continued to Columbia after Peru with them as part of my trip (Separate review) and this did not disappoint either. Couldn't recommend South Andes Travel enough - Another once in a lifetime trip!

We booked the 4 day Inca trail through South Andes travel and could not fault it one bit.
It was one of the hardest things I’ve done but 100% worth it at the end, the whole thing from start to finish was just amazing. The guide was friendly and had amazing knowledge throughout the whole trail telling us little facts as we walked. He also let us walk at our own pace and we never felt pressured which was really nice because some bits are very tough and walking slow is the way forward.
The porters just amazed me. They honestly have superhuman strength and we could not believe how they were managing to carry those bags up the same route we walked.
The food was amazing. Everything was so yummy and we honestly did not expect to have 3 course meals for dinner and lunch and be woken up by tea, I think I ate better in the mountains than at home!
Would 1000% recommend if anyone gets the chance to do it to take it because it was unreal.
We got lucky in terms of the weather we had one bad day of rain out of four but apart from that the whole experience was amazing.
Thank you to Matt at South Andes travel for being an amazing help and so accommodating!

Hi Erin and Alia.
Thanks so much for taking the time to review. We are very happy to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
Yes, it is a challenging trek, but challenges have their rewards - seeing those photos at Machu Picchu makes us :)
Wishing you safe onwards travel to Lake Titicaca and Bolivia!

One of the memorable experiences I've had to date! We started out in the "White City" of Arequipa where we enjoyed the beautiful architecture and visited the museum of Andean Sanctuaries we learnt about the fascinating history on the "The Incan Ice Maiden". Upon arrival to the Caynon later that day we checked into a delightful hotel and then went out for a hearty dinner where we were entertained by traditional dancers. The next day we ventured further into the Canyon, I really enjoyed the walk and eagerly awaited to see the Condors. We were all overjoyed when we were joined by a young Condor and a fully grown adult male soaring above us, it literally took my breath away! A trip not to be forgotten! Thrilled! I highly recommend going with South Andes Travel. Matt really looked after us and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. Thanks!

Thanks for this very kind review Elise!
So glad you got to see them especially as everyone was close to the 'giving up' stage, and then just like that, they appeared so worth the perserverences we think!
Keep enjoying your travels and taking plenty of photos and footage alike.

Matt designed a tour to meet our needs in 2018 but we had to cancel after my husband had an accident. Matt redesigned something to meet our abilities for this year. Hotel choices were excellent and central. We spent a few days in Arequipa to acclimatise and the rooftop sunsets were special. Colca Canyon was exhilarating and seeing Condors close up was an experience. Travelling between places in private transport provided varied and breathtaking views. All our drivers were good and friendly. The Uros islands are well worth a visit and the alternative Rainbow Mountain was exhilarating. We loved the towns of Pisac, Ollyantaytambo and Agues Callientes. We can’t recommend highly enough the short treks between the Amaru and Viacha communities - do try and include it if you can. Such a friendly insight into local life. The Incan ruins at Ollyantaytambo are mind blowing. The alternative Inca trail from Santa Teresa to LLactapata is brilliant and the location of the lodge out of this world. Matt’s organisation and personal service was outstanding. Our guide Hugo was fantastic and really made the holiday for us. We felt like friends ! Thanks Matt and team!

Hi there Vicci and family.
Its such great news for us to know that you were delighted with your tour especially after all that was gone through with the accident and then Covid, and being such a long time between first plans and to actually getting out on your holiday.
So we're very glad that those perserverences were worth it in the end!
Thanks also for praising our drivers and guide Hugo. We will pass it and let them know your appreciations.

My adult son, Dustin, and I just returned from a fantastic 18-day Peruvian adventure put together by Matt. We are typically independent travelers and this was the first time we have utilized a "travel service" but Matt came highly recommended by a mutual friend and I'm really glad I utilized him. Matt was great in offering proposed itineraries and was extremely accommodating on various changes to same. It was clear to me from the beginning that his goal was our happiness. He is extremely knowledgeable as to Peru, he listened closely to my goals, worked within our budget and offered input on things that he knew were important to us and delivered on same. Every detail of our adventure was well thought-out and navigated and Matt was always "hands on" for any questions or assistance. He was also helpful when I was not feeling well due to altitude sickness and remained flexible and accommodating in this regard. This time with my son was very special and important to me and Matt did a great job in making our trip truly memorable and meaningful from beginning to end, the end being making it possible for my son to wake up on a Uros floating reed island for his 28th birthday (an island birthday tradition). I recommend Matt without hesitation and am happy to now call him a friend. Also, all of the guides that we had were great, specifically I'd like to mention Roger and Alian, our guides in Cuzco and Matchu Picchu, were fantastic! Both a wealth of information!

HI Lori and Dustin.
Well now, thats some amazing feedback from what I am sure was an epic 'mother and son' adventure. Your smiles in the photos say it all !!
We do our best to understanding our travellers needs when designing these tours. We like when our more independent clients actually enjoyed having some assistance through their trip and without having a massive amount of pre-trip planning time we were glad to be able to offer some fast-tracking in the details.
Moreover, your interest in knowing more than just the usual spots, and a real eye into the cultural aspects, especially in those last few days of the trip also takes a bit more eye on detail than standard conventional tours..... AND how could we not make sure that Dustin had his birthday for an 8th consecutive year on another Island (this time of the floating kind)...
Glad to have you both with us and thanks once again for the in-depth and thoughtful review :)
Best wishes on your next travels

Matt in South Andes organised our trip. It was action packed and ranged all over Peru. Over the 15 days of the trip absolutely everything went according to plan and this was not simple given the people that were on the trip, the distances we travelled and the number of activities that we undertook. All the staff involved were excellent as was the Accomadation and the food. We were particularly impressed with Gabriel our horse trekking guide and Rodger who was our guide around Cusco and up to Matchu Pitchu. Matt was really helpful to us in deciding where to go and what to do in Peru. I should also mention that one of our group had to cancel only days before the trip and South Andes Travel worked really hard to ensure he recovered the maximum amount of refunds. I Can’t recommend them enough.

Hi All,
Matt and his team are the best journey organizer and trip execution that you can find in Peru. The communication with Matt started few months before the trip start date and He was super instrumental in meeting our field of interests and build tailor made itinerary and visit plan for us. Matt was always immediately available for any question or requirement in the planning phase and during the trip, when required solving unexpected changes with patience, good spirit & efficiency. All the drivers that Matt booked drove super calm, carefully and were very friendly. The guide (Roger) that accompanied us 4 days in the sacred Valley was extraordinary, professional, friendly, speaking the local language and knowing the people we met in the remote villages that we asked to visit.
We had a lifetime experience in our 14 days journey due to Matt’s assistance, Knowledge & advice Matt and his team made our dream come true.
We are sure that by choosing Matt and is team you will get the best of Peru have to offer, tailored to your specific fields of interest. More than that you will find a new friend in Peru.
Good Luck and Enjoy the Magic of Peru.

I am not a big fan of group trips and I was a little bit suspicious before deciding to take a trip together with some other people. I have to confess that our 3 week-vacation in Columbia in February-March turned out to be the best experience we've ever had. I cannot recommend enough Matt and everybody working so hard with him to make sure that you have the time of your life. Aside from the beautiful places that we've seen and the top choices in terms of accommodation, we felt really safe and everything was organized to perfection. Not a single glitch. Every special need is answered. I also appreciated the flexibility and thoroughness of the entire process. I would do that trip all over again, even if usually I don't visit the same place twice. We were well taken care of, they were really prompt and every mail we exchanged before the trip was clear and right to the point. For 23 days, we were one big, happy family!
I cannot wait for the next adventure!
Thank you Matt for an unforgettable time.

I hired South Andes Travel to put together an itinerary for a group tour of friends. We were presented with a complete, fairly priced, very thorough itinerary that checked all the boxes. Every single group member raved about the hotels (we went with three star properties, all exceptional), food, tour guides, and activities. It was a busy but beautiful week of adventure, culture, culinary experiences, and five star service by South Andes. When we ran into difficulties (one group member lost her passport), they stepped in immediately to assist us and solved the problem. Would HIGHLY recommend a tour with South Andes. Their team is great, local guides are kind, informative, and helpful, and everything ran exceptionally smoothly.

This was our first to South America and we chose Peru and another good decision was to go with South Andes travel to plan our trip. Matt the travel owner was referred by one of our friends and that was one of the best decisions we made for this trip.
Matt and his team works with you diligently to carve out a trip per your requirements. The best part was the service...one booked, paid Matt literally navigates and stays connected through your entire trip ensuring smallest comforts - getting boarding passes, reminders, introducing drivers and the list goes on.
His whole team of guides, cars, drivers are a bunch of nice people. His selection of hotels are per your budget and we got good experience.
We did Lima, Amazon Jungle, Cusco, Pisac, Machhu Pichu, Arequipa, Condor visits, hot geysers.
If you are planning to go to trip, consult them and get their services it's worth it.

Peru and Macchu Picchu had been on my bucket list for a long time. Traveling with Matt and South Andes travel made it so easy. You literally had to just show up - they took care of the rest. Tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly and very flexible. Matt was always willing to answer questions and provide details. If you are going to Peru I highly recommend this group. We had a memorable vacation, thanks to them.
