About
Located over 2.5 miles above sea level in the Andes mountains, Humantay Lake is one of Peru’s most unique natural wonders. With turquoise water you’d expect from the Caribbean and beautiful rugged terrain, it’s a favorite amongst photographers and outdoors enthusiasts. Don’t forget to keep an eye out while hiking to the top as you might see condors flying above. You can hop on a day-long private tour from Cusco or the Sacred Valley to reach the lake, or opt to complete the Salkantay Trek, which will take you from Humantay all the way to Machu Picchu. – Tripadvisor

    Awesome trip!!
We went to Humantay lake with Arnold expeditions, with tour guide John Wick. It was an wonderfull and fun day. The lake is beautifull and the hike itself is also nice. The food provided at brealfast and lunch was good. Tourguide John is very knowledgable and enthousiastic. He took time to explain the local traditions in both english and Spanish and even performed a small ceremony at the lake!

A beautiful place but the hiking is challenging
As everyone noted: the climbing up will be VERY hard if you are not accustomed to the altitude (which is >10k feet or 4000 meters). HIRE a horse. The horses appear tired to me. I respect the local tourism industry but some people may be concerned of the welfare so I think it's worth mentioning. Also you will departure as more or less a 'group' with like 10+ horses and 3 horse handlers. So you should be comfortable to be on a horse alone. The lake itself is great. It got 4 not 5 stars because even in the low season (Jan) there are MANY people there. It's crowded. The view is probably slightly better than the classic Banff area lakes but a lot less accessible. Depending on whether you can get the sun you may not get the color as you imagine. Being a very instagrammable place you also have many people hogging the place for a perfect shot. One last note: the drive to and from the lake & cusco is fabulous for the most part until you hit the local village when the roads just stopped and it can trigger motion sickness. The food option is much worse than the sacred valley area and very basic so also be prepared there. 1 soles to use bathroom so you may want to carry small changes.

    Worth the walking
Laguna Humantay is a gem nestled above 4,200 meters, offering an awe-inspiring sight of turquoise waters set against rugged Andean beauty. The journey to this natural wonder is not for the faint-hearted, with a 6 km uphill trek and a 5 km descent that can be quite challenging. But those who undertake this adventure are rewarded with one of Peru’s most stunning landscapes. The excursion starts early and includes facilities at the mountain’s base, but it’s important to come prepared with sunscreen and layered clothing to adapt to changing temperatures. The effort to reach Laguna Humantay is a testament to the majestic allure of the Peruvian highlands, where every step brings you closer to nature’s masterpiece. It’s a highly recommended experience for those willing to embrace the trek. Even tho if your not willing to walk you can rent a horse that will take you to a close point.

The experience was great excellent service
Laguna Humantay and 7 Colors Mountain we did it with the company Terra Quechua Peru, they were always attentive to everyone and we were delighted with the places we visited and the views we had. We were delighted with the places we visited and the views we had. Although these excursions start very early in the morning, our guide from the first moment gave us a lot of joy, good explanations and security to survive the altitude sickness. We consider that the organization was great and that he was attentive at all times to make the experience unforgettable... Very grateful!

Highly recommend and worth the trip. It is not so difficult if you take the horses. The views are spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed the hike as we took the guided tour. The lake is precious.

An excellent view of the lake with good weather. The hiking up to the lake from the car park is manageable, given enough time. A site that is underrated.

The hike is widely underestimated. It looks easy but is tough with constant raising levels of altitude and an uneven path (wet, full of rocks and horse dung). The view on the way is fascinating and the Laguna despite all the tourists a wonderful quiet place. Nonetheless the hike and experience on the montaña de colores is way mor worth and rewarding imo.

Magnificent lake and guided tour. Tour guide was very patient and accommodates our need. SUCKS!!! 3 hour coaster van ride 20 seater van with NO AIR -CONDITIONED on a 22 Celsius weather. 19 people in the van feels like 30 Celcius sauna inside, sweaty comin from a hike. Everyone was breathing each other breaths, go figure...Closed to call an uber drive back to Cusco...
