Arequipa is surrounded by three volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. The Misti has the best shape. Regretfully, it is losing its snowy peak day by day, because of global warming.

You can see this volcano from just about any part of town. It is still active and erupts during the day.

This mountain/volcano is 17 kilometers from Arequipa and is visible from most of the city. Nice picture but probably not worth climbing for most.

El Misti is a majestic volcano that sits right behind Arequipa overlooking the city. Its pretty awesome to just sit and gaze at. Even if you don't hike to the top you can still feel its presence.

There are better pictures as in May the tip is covered in a volcano. The volcanos and mountains dominate the city and the views are one of the best memories we gave of Peru.
