We love visiting markets when we travel and we really enjoyed this one. We found a wide range of fruits and vegetables and the market was really very clean compared to some others we visiting in Peru. There were a number of places selling herbs and plants to be used for healing teas or for rituals and we found this especially interesting. It is also fascinating to see the wide array of fruits that are available in Peru and of course there are so many kinds of potatoes. If you enjoy visiting markets, I would recommend going here when you are in Arequipa.

I found it a bit boring since the market didn't have a lot of product varieties compared to the San Pedro Mercado in Cuzco. So if you don't have so much time, skip it.

The mercado, especially on a Saturday, spills out into the surrounding streets. If you want to see what Peruvian’s eat then this is the place to be! Want to see some of the 1,000 types of potatoes - you'll find them here! There is almost anything you can think of to be had in the surrounding stores and plenty of places to eat like a local, if you are brave enough!

This market is a snapshot of the local culture. Very clean and safe. You can appreciate the ingredients used on local restaurants. Large variety of fruits. Need to try fresh juice from any of many local fruits. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of local cheeses

The multitude of offerings of fruit, potatoes, meats, and a variety of other items makes a visit to San Camilo an unforgettable experience. From a bucket of chicken heads to more varieties of potatoes than you could imagine, San Camilo allows you to step into the culture of Peru.

I love markets because you get to really experience the local culture and Arequipa’s was very interesting. There is food to take home and cook, stalls selling local food and an entire aisle of women making custom fresh fruit smoothies. Also some souvenirs, a floral area upstairs and a Christmas market. I had a great chicken sandwich for 3.50 sols. Check it out for sure.

Wonderful market with an huge array of colors, smells, products and handicrafts. A must see market to buy fresh and exotics fruits and very well-priced Peruvian handicrafts, where you can easily negotiate a price. It opens quite early in the morning 6 a.m. It is a photographer's dream, but don't flash the camera or phone more than it is necessary. Even though it is relatively safe, our taxi driver advised us to be careful, particularly of strangers bumping into you. If you are interested in handicrafts, this is the place to buy some. The cheapest prices in Arequipa. Also, there is an area to buy traditional handmade hats which are of excellent quality. The best time to visit this market is during the morning or early afternoon.

This has to be one of the best organized markets that we have been to. The market had aisles set up well with very large overhead signs designating the different sections which made it very easy to find what we were looking for. Several stalls with an abundance of potato varieties and I found the best lechon that I have ever eaten at one of the stalls.
