I'm really glad I found this place. It was actually quite easy to spot--just across from the train station, about a 15-20 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas. The admission was next to nothing (3 soles, I think), but the museum is worth more, definitely. The artwork was quite interesting, and its placement in the rather old house gives... More

Never made it inside as we walked down from the central plaza (get a taxi back uphill) to find the gates locked and a rather disreputable notice saying hours were 8 to 2. Three stars based upon the reports elsewhere of its unusually interesting contents.

We visited when the bottom floor exhibition was in rotation so only got to see the top floor of permanent collection. With seemingly three people of staff, you saw the love, handwork and soul in this museum. Plus, with no cafe, store or other typically "extras" in a museum experience, you'll leave truly refreshed.

We nearly missed this museum, but we're so glad we made the effort. Barely ten minutes walk south of the town centre, this small but beautifully curated gallery contains mainly sculpture by many of Peru's top young artists. The contrast with the very old, historic sights in the town centre made us realise that we wanted to find some of... More

Seeing the contemporary art of an area adds a special element, especially after all the religious art. This is no different -- contemporary artists of note, recent art exhibit winners, a noteworthy permanent exhibit, a lovely sculpture and flower garden (with an old train car?!), all in an old mansion. A nice 15 minute walk in the southern part of... More
