It seems that in the morning, noon, or night this beautiful town square is the place to see and be seen -- especially if you bring your special friend. Le Cathedrals at eh north side and governmental buildings surround. There is a huge fountain in the center. Artists, shoe shiners, and endorse linger around. This square reminds me of Washington... A typical, yet beautiful Plaza, the nearby cathedral is majestically impressive. Many restaurants and cafes are nearby.

The Plaza is clean and lively with lost going on. There are a plenty of places to eat along the square, but be warned you will be hassled by touts as soon as you enter.

The square has been mainly pedestrianised, which is a GOOD THING! It is a pleasant space with a central fountain, lawns, trees and seating. Three sides of the square have colonnaded shops some with upstairs cafes with great views. The forth side is taken up entirely by the massive facade of the Cathedral. It is kept spotlessly clean and the... More

This plaza is now traffic free! We used to be assaulted with car alarms honking and unpleasant emission smells. Now you find a peaceful and visually stimulating place in which to walk or just sit. Interesting shops are tucked away around the square. If you are a people watcher this is heaven. On Weekends you may see a parade or... More

This is your typical Peruvian Plaza de Armas. I like the Cathedral which gives it an special touch. There are good places to eat from. Also, you can buy your tickets to the attractions you want to visit.

We we're glad to arrive in Arequipa and stop for some snacks there. Really quiet (no traffic allowed) after some days in Lima! Plus nice architecture and the cathedral

El centro de la "ciudad blanca" está lleno de vida. En las mañanas es ideal para ver pasar a la gente hacia sus actividades cotidianas mientras que es un gran lugar para almorzar en algunos de los restaurantes con balcones que miran hacia la plaza. // The center of the "white city" is full of life. In the mornings it... More
