We arrived in Arequipa quite early and because we couldn't check into our hotel, I booked this tour because it was cheap and it would kill some time. While the carvings were nice and all, and the stroll through the ravine was fun, the tour is pretty basic. If only suggest it if you have nothing else better to do.

This is not a single place but at least four and growing. Some figures are exhibited and purchased by visitors so there's a chance that you don't get to see some next time you visit.

Unfortunately, this trip was the worst we had in Peru. Our guide told us it's cool and it's a little Petra, we also looked at the photos in the Internet which were great - well, it has nothing to do with reality. Basically you will see few sculptures and will walk for 20 minutes through the small canion. For us it was a waste of 4 hours, there are better things to do and see in Arequipa. Two points only for the super nice guide, Maya.

Very interesting site. Just opened in 2016. I have been in Arequipa before and this was a surprise.
How the sillar stone is crafted was exquisitely explained by one of the workers.

I visited "La ruta del sillar" a month ago and to be honest I had a better expectation but it wasn't, just "Culebrillas"way was nice but I do not recommed to visit . If you want to do other tours in Arequipa I think do rafting or campiña tour are much better.

Ruta Del Sillar has a few interesting Carvings which make for good photo opportunities. You can have a guided tour, see where arequipas trademark white stones come from and see it being split into smaller pieces. It is an interesting place to spend the afternoon.

Basically its a quary with piles of rocks. There is no history there thrust me. Only a few pieces or arts here and there but it does not worth the 45-60 soles that tours will charge you.

We took a taxi that cost us 90 soles (negociated prior and the cab driver tried to squeeze more money out of us on our way back but thats another story... those damn peruvians always in to make more money out of tourists ;)) roundtrip plus the 5 soles that cost us to enter the quary. Seriously I dont understand the reason for an attraction to be there...

Dont waste your time even if its just a 4 hour tour. The picture bellow are the only nice things you will see so feel free to copy them ;)

Drive into the working quarry where you find figures carved in the face of the cliff, walk through a ravine and see petrographs from thousands of years ago, and actually split a large block of sillar.

The views and sights are to be admired. Moulded through years of quarrying it has a place that shouldn't be missed while in Arequipa. The main 'square' has a sculpture of a church in Arequipa. Lots of photo opportunities! The second site is another 10 mins drive which has also fascinating rock formation.

It's just a shame that people throw their rubbish- bottles, plastics, etc in the site. I think this is endemic in this part of Peru. I don't think I've seen any of this in Cusco. The route to Colca Canyon was the same littered with trash. There are also vsndalism in the protected bit of the route.
