We did this as part of our walking tour introduction to the city. Fifteen artisan shops flank this open air square that used to be a prison. The shops offer unique jewellery and crafts and all are a bit nicer than your normal souvenir shop. Pleasant little square.

We did this as part of a walking tour of the city. We were able to find out the history and how it was a jail. In the pictures you can see the two different colours of stone, pink and white.

This cute little Courtyard right off the San Francisco Plaza has the usual stores with junk you know souvenirs but of a higher quality that you might usually find on the street. There are a couple of jewelry stores that are very nice and I picked up a lovely silver necklace and chain that I could never afford in the United States. This is a nearby place to visit if you are in the Central Plaza de Armas and fancy a walk for a little more exercise. Meaning it's a few blocks so be sure you are in the mood and it's not too hot when you go. The church in the Francisco Plaza was never opened even though we went over there 4 times hoping to see it inside. This is the reason I wound up shopping instead!

This enclosed, open-air square has about 15 shops. Each shop has merchandise made by the artisans. Shopping here is quick and easy because there is a good variety, all in one place. The downside is that each shop opens and closes on their own schedule, so we were left to press our noses against the glass of half the shops during early lunch. We stopped back again because it was on our way home. The best time to catch all shops open was mid to late afternoon.
