This was really an average museum, and unless you have a background in local history, it will not make any sense. I thought the wax figures were below average, not well lit, and unimpressive. We moved through quickly and were not moved or impressed by the displays. Sorry, better museums to visit.

This Museum explains the history of Ecuador and it’s very informative. Cost was $1.50 per person. It took about 30-40 minutes to complete and you have the option to see the Museum alone or with a guide. The guides are free and go out at certain times.

Located in the actual location where ecuadorian patriots were killed in 1809, this former jail turned into a wax museum is a fantastic and fun way to learn about Ecuador independence process (1780 - 1822).
The wax statues are in perfect condition, the museum guides are extremely friendly and well prepared so this museum is a great option to spend an hour in Quito's old center.

Even though there are few English explanations, the layout and exhibits are fascinating. Spend a little time learning the history of Ecuador and you may appreciate it better. US$1.50 admission fee; the museum was free on 10 August 2016 (the first call for independence from Spain in Latin America was on 10 August 1809). The line went around the building; next day almost nobody was in attendance.

This would be a fine museum for Ecuadorean school children to learn about their country but for anyone else it's worthless. Nothing is in English, the plaques for the exhibits, the pamphlets , the staff. If it were to be so maybe two stars.

The museum is clearly relatively new (or relatively recently renovated) and tells the story of Quito's rebellions and revolutions in the 19th century along with some other details about the history of Quito. We were allowed in for free - I didn't catch the reason given by the guard, just that the museum was free that day. The wax models help make the stories more engrossing and are very well done. The only problem is that the museum is entirely in Spanish, so if you don't speak Spanish, you won't get anything at all out of it.

Our directions led us to the Metropolitan Cultural Center, but we could not find the museum. The entrance is actually outside the cultural center on the right side, down the small alley way. The museum is named for the person who donated his pieces of art to the city.
As we were paying our $1.50 entrance, we were told they do not have any tours in English. We were on our own as everything is in Spanish only,
In addition to the art, there are some very impressive wax figures depicting historical scenes. It is well worthy a visit, even without the English.
