About me: 33, male, solo traveller, slightly spooked out reading various things about safety etc..in Quito. I have been travelling before, but not in this way for a long time (previous "longer" trip was through Mexico in 2002). Despite a natural reduction in confidence as...More

well, if you are looking for trouble, cheap "gringish" shoestring travelers´ hostals, overpriced spanish schools with no real professionals, drugs, crime, heavy partying ending bad, locals trying to ripp off the white traveler - this is right place! take it handfull and enjoy!

We stayed in a hotel in this area because I read that this was one of the safer areas. Well it didn't feel that way. We visited around 4 PM and it just didn't feel right. There were police cars everywhere but still... We also...More

Interesting little area. There are a good amount of bars, restaurants and places to check out for a little shopping. At night it CAN get a bit dodgy especially into the late-late night. So the later the night, the more the demographic changes.

We walked through the Mariscal District of Quito in the afternoon, so we cannot comment on the nightlife there, which I understand is pretty vibrant. There were some colorful buildings and murals, and the neighborhood is photogenic. Our last stop in the area was the...More

This is a popular tourist area in Quito but not the nicest area. If you are young and want to bar hop fine but if you have a family or are older I would stay away. The Quito bus tour goes through this area if...More

Went to the Mercado in the Mariscal to look at the native crafts. The females of our group enjoyed seeing the different products; they were disappointed that the dozens of stalls had identical or similar items.

This little part of Quito is very happening by day and by night. They have little boutique hotels everywhere and quite the nightlife. From beer halls to steak joints to coffee shops. You will find everything you need in this area. Stay away from the...More

Lots of shops, restaurants, clubs, music, etc., and easy walking distance from the excellent JWMarriott hotel we were staying at. We really did fall in love with Quito and the Ecuadoreans and wished we were staying longer.

Mariscal is the modern part of town. It is safe, agreeable and modern. You find many restaurants (mostly with international cuisine) and bars in the area. Adjacent park with souvenir stands. Good for a stroll and going out and night.

Really hopping in the evening and at night. Take a walk in the day time to visit the market where you will find items for very reasonable prices.

The Mariscal is a popular nightclub and tourist district in Quito. I wasn't really impressed by it. The area has a bunch of mostly mediocre to bad restaurants and not a lot else. It gets really seedy at night, with street prostitutes all over. Overall,...More
