Day trip with Jan, the original Biking Dutchman himself. All easily arranged by a phone call. On time pickup from hotel, transfer to home and bike shed. Bikes were collected, helmets and protection gear distributed. Trip started from there, to and through a beautiful valley. Easy cycling, even through dark tunnels. Then a 45 minute drive up into the mountains... More

Our family of 5 (kids age 21, 21, 14) set up a 1 day bike tour down Cotopaxi for our 1st full day in Ecuador on Dec 19th. The day was amazing. Our guide was great, the scenery was phenomenal, our lunch was delicious, and our whole family loved it! Thank you Biking Dutchman for a wonderful experience.

Instead of dwelling on the hustle and bustle of Christmas, we packed up and headed to Ecuador for a 6-day bike tour with the Biking Dutchman. Biking is a great way to experience this country. There were 11 of us traveling from the ages of 15 - 59. Our guide, Fernando was superb. The drivers Patricio of Caesar were equally... More

Why did it take us 20 years to find this company? I now use them when ever we have friends staying from out of town. They are excellent, their guides are fun, knowledgable and very experienced to cope with any group dynamics and physical abilities. Love our bike rides in the mountains around Ecuador. They are the pioneers of bicycling... More

My family and I decided to do Christmas in Ecuador. My Aunt and Uncle had already done this excursion in the spring. We were going obviously in December. Prior to departure, the forecast called for rain, rain, and more rain. However, that did not happen. If it does rain, you simply put on your raincoat and rain pants. Rain may... More

Dear James: Coming from a highly educated and well-mannered young man like you, every word of appreciation is doubled welcomed. And you did have plenty of kind words for us and our work! So thank you very much, in deed. There is no waste in your Review. You were clear on what visitors should expect, but I admire the way... More

We did the 2-day trip to Cotopaxi & Quilotoa. The locations, guides, other guests, and overnight accomodations were great. The bikes we used were old Trek 3500s with v-brakes. The vast majority of trails we rode on were either gravel fire roads or paved asphalt streets. There were a few easy double-track trails. If you consider yourself a 'mountain biker'... More

I am so very sorry that you catalogued our tour as subpar. I was particularly saddened with your judgment that other mountain bikers will be disappointed. We have had MANY mountain bikers before and just a few were disillusioned. About the bikes: They are used TREK 3500 not old (they are all no more than 2 years old) and they... More

From top to bottom this was a truly terrific tour! So glad we did it. Jan picked us up at the Wyndam hotel near the airport and drove us an hour to meet up with Federico and Patricio. (Jan has had an amazing life biking all over the world before ending up in Ecuador--his home for more than 26 years.... More

First of all, receive our profuse apologies for taking so long to respond to such a wonderful review. It is not that we did not appreciate your encouraging words, it is only that we´ve got caught up with the Holidays. And Holidays means at this end, not only the joy of Family Gatherings, but also more biking tours for the... More

I took the one-day Cotopaxi tour yesterday, and I could not speak highly enough of the experience. Jan picked us up at our hotel and brought us to Fernando and Patricio and the Land Cruiser that carried us and the bicycles to the top of Cotopaxi. Conversations were fun, enlightening, and informative throughout the tour, and the stunning beauty and... More

I am happy that you had an experience from which you cannot speak highly enough! For us it was very rewarding to read your comments, a great way to start the year! Thank you also for the "obvious" yet wise advice: " while riding watch the road/trails, and stop to take in the beauty and majesty. I nearly got myself... More

Very well organized tour and more than friendly team. The tour isn't very difficult. The landscape is awesome and the stop at papallacta nice as well. One and a half hour hot bathing were absolutely sufficient for me. The lunch and especially the homemade tea and brownies are super tasty. Only I would have wished me a few more uphill... More

Thanks for your review about the Papallacta trip, especially for the positive comment about our “friendly” crew. Good for you that the uphill during this trip, was not hard enough! The uphill parts, done in the Chaquiñán (old rail road line), are more than we offer in any other trip. It all depends on the perspective, as some clients, not... More

On the 3 day trip you get a good taste of the natural beauty of the Andes and their traditional peoples. That's because you spend about the same amount of time (or more) driving as you do biking each day. You visit three remarkable icons of Ecuador, (Cotopaxi, Quilotoa, Chimborazo) and stay in very intriguing and hospitable places. The biking... More

We reckon that we are far from perfect ; however, we are happy that, for more than 25 years, the BIKING DUTCHMAN has gone the extra mile to show Ecuador to our clients from a more human perspective. Ecotourism was our goal, without even knowing it existed; to do fun activities was always on the Agenda, so if we accomplished... More
