Muelle Prat or Prat Jetty is just west of Sotomayor Square and you cannot miss it as you drive through Valparaiso. You get good views form the jetty of the workings of the port and the real largte port in the background. Not a bgreat area but interesting.

I've visited this place since I was a child. However, there's always something new: new ships, new people, new handcrafts. If you wish you can take one of the little boats and see some of our Navy ships from the distance.

If you are standing in Plaza Sotomayor and walk away from the Navy building, you will end up here. The port has some small touristy shops, people trying to get tourists to eat at their restaurants and the boat tours. I arrived perhaps a bit early as crowds hadn't really formed yet for the tours of the port. If you find a set of blue stairs, you essentially wait here until a group of people form and a boat captain is interested in pulling up. Once a captain is at the dock, they seem to wait until they fill up before they depart and the next boat pulls up. I didn't love the seating situation of the first boat so i waited for the next one. My trip cost 4,000 pesos and you make a large circle around the port which takes about 30 minutes. It offers some great views of the hillsides of Valparaiso, a working dry dock, navy ships, cargo ships and some sea life. Even if you don't take a boat tour, I'd encourage you to walk down here and enjoy the vibrant boats and a real active port.

We were docked on a cruise ship overnight. From our balcony, we could see Plaza Sotomayer. We could also see that there was a marked walkway that would have taken us directly from the ship to downtown, however, we were required to take a shuttle that took us about a mile away.....made no sense (unless you own the shuttle buses).

Valparaiso's port is historically significant and still very significant as a commercial port. It's not a very pretty area but fascinating to observe the port activity and the ship traffic in the bay.

Valparaiso has a lot of port history and the person behind it all, Prat. Do get a chance to take the free history tour which gives you a nice insight of Valparaiso. Definitely worth the sight to see the port.

Muelle Port - a functional commercial port, with an area set aside to get on a boat ride on the harbor. The "Paseos en Lucha" has two sets of boats: a large one and several small ones.
The large one is cheap (about $6 USD) but you have to wait for it to fill up which mine took about 15-20 minutes. There are several smaller ones that charge about $12 but they leave every 5 minutes.
All boats give you a view of Valparaiso and the local harbor up until Muelle Baron (Baron pier). You get to see some nice sights, and even sea lions.
The tour guides was all in Spanish and they give history of the buildings, and crack jokes along the way.
Overall it was nice. Just warning the boat was a bit dated and quite improvised, but you did have life jackets.

Probably not a must see attraction, however, worth seeing when in the area, it is a working harbour, which, is really busy.

This is clearly a working harbour which gas few redeeming features. There are cranes and containers everywhere.even worst, when I was there, there was a cruise ship spewing out tourists .....who I later met with about 90 queiing up to get funicular down. There seem to be cruises around the harbour but really nothing to see.
