About
The historic Long Bar returns fully restored and continues its proud tradition as the Home of the Singapore Sling. The famous counter shines like new amidst decor that marries architecture and contemporary plantation-inspired motifs. Long Bar was located at Cad’s Alley in the early 1900s. At a time when improved rail and road systems brought rubber and palm oil plantation owners over to Singapore from Malaya every weekend, it was known as the ‘Rendezvous of Planters’. The earthy decor of the two-storey Long Bar is inspired by Malayan life in the 1920s. The deep, rich colours and lush greenery transport patrons to the edge of a tropical plantation. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the table and bar counter to the floor. This is quite possibly the only place in Singapore where littering is encouraged.

    Expect a tourist attraction
It's a classic has to be done but don't expect too much. We went to Raffles for the obligatory Singapore sling which was delicious but expensive. Queued for 15 mins. There isn't a dress code and everyone else is a tourist too there for their Singapore sling. The floor is covered in peanut shells. We felt it was a tourist museum imitation about a bygone grand bar. Nothing wrong with that - just know to go to a better bar (Atlas for example which is a short walk away) if it's a classy dressed up evening in a cocktail bar that you are after!

Singapore Sling tick, but better places to enjoy a drink!!!
Great to say you have been and drank a very expensive Singapore Sling cocktail in the Long Bar, but don't stress if you miss it. We had to line up for about 25mins, they gave us refreshments while waiting which was nice. It was ok, the garden bar downstairs was nicer if I had known I would have gone there first, nicer surroundings.

A lovely way to spend a couple of hours!
Queued a little while to go in but not too long. Once in, you can stay as long as you like 👍🏻. Had a lovely spot to sit and ordered the “must have” Singapore Sling which I then proceeded to sling over myself 😥. Immediately the young lady brought me another ( no charge) which was really good. Also she could see I liked the coasters on the table so she gave me some to take home. Visited the boutique on the way out, really lovely for gifts. All in all, a lovely experience. Very glad we went.

    Had to be done
Despite the 30 minute wait in humid conditions, this was a great experience. We were offered a small ice tea while we queued. We were shown to a table with a small sack of peanuts on it. We both ordered a Singapore sling and really enjoyed the drink and the atmosphere. As is tradition we threw the empty nut shells on the floor. if you need the rest room they are amazingly clean and worth a sneaky look. Definitely worth the cost

Not sure if it's worth it
One of the most touristy things you can do in Singapore is get the Singapore Sling from the Long Bar, where it was originally created. We heard about this from our tour guide the day before so while we were nearby on our last day in Singapore, we decided to throw caution to the wind and go get one. Well, I'm not sure it was worth it. First of all, the line of tourists outside the Long Bar was lengthy, but once inside, the air conditioning was on full blast and we were able to cool down. My husband and I ordered just one Singapore Sling to share at a whopping $46 SGD after taxes, which was about $34 USD. It was probably the most expensive cocktail I've ever had to date without knowing the price up front. I mean, it was listed on the menu as such but when I was in line, I didn't know it. If I had known, I would have hit up a different bar elsewhere to have gotten a better cocktail at a less expensive price. I don't even like gin but as they say, "when in Rome..." The Long Bar is located inside the Raffles Hotel, one of the oldest, high-end hotels in Singapore. Its decor is reminiscent of a plantation with columns and shutters of yesteryear. There are peanut shells on the ground inside the bar which kind of cheapens the experience for me. I mean, if you're going to charge that much for a cocktail, please don't have patrons throw peanut shells on the floor. You're paying for the experience, I guess.

    A must do
We went to try the famous Singapore Sling! Even though is was pricey and it is not the original "Long Bar" we still enjoyed it. I would recommend going earlier as the line to get in can get a bit longer after about 1pm. We arrive around 12 and there was 1 group before us and our wait was about 20minutes.

    The real McCoy!
You'll want to the experience THE Singpore Sling and you'll want it at the Long Bar at Raffles. Our group of about 60 had reservations so we were able to enter as a group. We were seated throughout the large room. The drink is delicious and we had more than one which is pricey at about 35 SGD each. You get to fill up up on peanuts in the shell. A nice afternoon. If you don't have a reservation, you'll stand in a long line.

    A Must See
No trip to Singapore is complete without visiting the home of the Singapore Sling, The nearest MRT (metro) station to Raffles hotel is Esplanade then its approx' a 5 min walk to the Long Bar. No booking is required but you may have to queue for a short while to be escorted to a seat, while waiting for your Singapore Sling to arrive, continue the tradition of eating peanuts and dropping the shells on the floor. great place to sit and while away an afternoon. If cocktails is not your thing there are other alcoholic and non acoholic beverages available.

Lunchtime visit to Raffles Long Bar
Arrived just before noon and there was a short line. It is upstairs, and can be accessed directly off North Bridge Road, around halfway down, or via other hotel entrances. Staff were helpful. Once the bar opened (noon) we were quickly seated. Dress code at lunch was very relaxed, including shorts and tee shirts. We wore decent shorts and collared shirts (polo shirts were fine). Service was excellent (Ting helped us) and our drinks arrived quickly. We had original Singapore Slings and also the Raffles 1915 recipe gin sling. Both were good, with the 1915 gin sling less sweet than the Singapore Sling. Atmosphere was pleasant, relaxed and no effort to hurry us along. Drinks total was around 125 Sing$. Well worth the unique experience.

    Abrupt end
We were very much looking forward to having the special experience of having a Singapore Sling at Raffles Long Bar. We waited in the queue for 20mins, a lovely waitress took details of group numbers in the queue. We were seated, our drink orders taken and we had a lovely time soaking up the ambience of the hotel, thinking of all the interesting people who had been there before. Two adult Singapore slings and one mocktail sling came to $111. We were prepared to pay this for the experience. What we weren't prepared for was to be rudely ushered out exactly 30mins after receiving our drink, after declining a second. We were rapping up our visit, preparing to leave in 5-10 mins or so, when a very rude waitress approached us tapping her watch at us. It was a very disappointing end to an experience we had been very much looking forward to.

We were told to try this place out just for it’s history
And yes it’s pricey but what a place, we went today at 12.30 until 2.0 and it was faultless, had to wait about 5 minutes as there is a queue and the maitre at the the door was spot on on, he did not let anybody walk in he was on the ball all the time and he made our experience well worth it. His attention to detail was spot on, top marks to him and his staff. Would I got back here I could live there.

We were blown away by the exterior of The Raffles Hotel, so lovely, made our way upstairs to the Long Bar and were seated immediately. The tables were close together with hessian sacks of monkey nuts on the tables and the empty shells crushing under our feet. Drinks menu eventually arrived, eye watering prices, however we said you only do it once, so bit the bullet and ordered two Singapore slings. Two drinks worked out at £51 - imagine how disappointed we were to see these being made in batches of six at a time. Tasted poor and a bit like pop - very little alcohol and felt well and truly ripped off. When we left there was a huge queue, it really is like the story The Emperors New Clothes, and we fell for it.

Please don't waste your money on total over priced drinks which are full mostly off crushed ice. Apparently your meant to ask for less if you knew this in advance as explained by Casper the Manager who actually followed me out off the Long Bar when I tried to explain how I felt! Recent experience we ordered two drinks, one tasted awful so sweet undrinkable. Ordered another just as bad. You literally get about one inch off fluid the rest is ice so in effect you are paying for the most expensive ice in your life at $50 for 2 drinks! That's GBP £27. There are far better hotels around that have far better atmospheres. Sent them an email to which they responded this is standard practice with the amount off ice so blatantly they are trying to make as much money as possible out off tourists visiting The Long Bar. There is no ambience. You are just staring at other tourists most likely feeling the same.

This is on the tick list of many a visitor to Singapore. Singapore sling, throw peanuts on the floor and take some selfies. Sitting by the door one can judge that the iconic Long Bar is a bit like Kings Cross station - people just never stop coming in and going out. But be prepared to pay a King's ransom for the must-do experience. The traditional Singapore sling is around $35 while other cocktails are all around $25 or more - and they are tiny. So tiny that you don't really feel like you've had a drink until you've had at least two. So by the time you leave your wallet will be crying. Having said that, the service is excellent and the place is beautiful. They could, however, do better with the peanuts, which tasted stale to me.

People were made to queue outside in the mid day sun while there were plenty of empty tables inside. We had to ask for an empty table where we were able to see the room (not stuck behind the stair case). The senior bar tender seemed to running everything - the queue outside, where you sit, the ordering of drinks etc. Service was extremely slow, the Singapore sling I ordered was the second most expensive and they were expensive, and I have had better Singapore Slings in our own hotel for free! There was very little alcohol in it, and it had no flavour. When you are ready to leave and want to pay your bill, you have to ask several times before anything happens. I had been really looking forward to this event, but in my opinion save your money, it really is not worth going. Buy yourself a drink someone else and enjoy it. I have been there, done that, never again.

This is one of the must do things in Singapore. It's not cheap, each drink is over £20, but to drink a Singapore Sling in Raffles must be on many people's bucket list. The atmosphere is crazy, quaint, yet somehow laid back. The sack of nuts on the table has to be tried, if only to be able to throw your shells on the floor. We were there late afternoon and the floor was deep in shells. You may have to queue, but the queue moves fairly quickly as they are keen to get you through the door. The cocktails are individually hand made so there is a constant rattle of shakers. Despite the queues to get in, there is no sense of being rushed here. It's special: do it once and enjoy it.

I have had Raffles on my bucket list for years, to visit the Long Bar and have a Singapore Sling. Unfortunately they were massively understaffed and the queue we were in took 40 or so minutes until we were eventually seated. The drinks were unsurprisingly overpriced.

While on a three day stop over on our way home , we had been told by lots of people to visit the famous Raffles hotel for the famous Singapore sling...so we did .
We love history, so reading the info on the walls as you go up the stairs to the bar was very interesting, and yes we did have to queue, but we expected it when we went at peak time and it’s a well known famous place for tourists to visit, so expect it !! We had only to wait about 15 minutes and to be honestly it was a gorgeous day , sun was shining and the raffles hotel itself is beautiful , so we didn’t mind . When we got to our table the place was very busy and sure enough nuts 🥜 every where ....an old tradition from the early years apparently so they kept it .
We had the original Singapore sling @£35 s$( £16 ish at the rate we bought) the standard is about ($29) we could definitely feel and taste the alcohol....proper adult cocktails , very nice indeed. We tried different ones for the next round and again they were spot on .
Staff were very friendly and quick to serve us, no complaints there, and we didn’t feel rushed to finish our drinks at all .

We went to the hotel as we hadn’t been there for many years and knew that they had refurbished it. We had originally wanted to book for the afternoon tea with dim sum and traditional afternoon tea, but it looked as though this had been discontinued which was such a shame as this was so lovely when we had this a number of years ago.
We went later in the evening to go to the ‘Long Bar’ as our friends wanted to go and have an original Singapore sling for their first time.
Very difficult to find but we made it with the help of various members of staff - it’s like a maze now at the hotel.
We had to queue outside for approx 30 minutes to get in and when we did get in were amazed that they had an upstairs that they had closed and that there was no need for anyone to queue if they had left that open (some people just walked away so lost custom there!).
A Singapore sling is the most expensive anywhere at $35 Singapore dollars but an experience - with unlimited nuts!
We wanted to buy a souvenir but the shop closes at 21:00 and you cannot buy anything from the long bar!

The Raffles Hotel Long Bar is billed as the 'home of the Singapore Sling', and while it has become very touristy, this should not be missed by anyone who likes a good drink. I had gone in 2007 with my wife and there were no queues then, but in the newly renovated Raffles, there are substantial queues to access the Long Bar. Fortunately we only waited 20-25 minutes, and ordered 1 Singapore Sling for myself and one fruit punch for my daughter. Both were very tasty. The bags of peanuts on each table come free. The whole place, with the ceiling rattan fans, is quite cool. The drinks are very very expensive for what they are, but then you are in a unique location.
