Beautiful colonial cathedral in the center of Singapore. A large congregation so get there early. I was fortunate to attend a celebration for a beloved priest ; Fr.Christof who has served Singapore for 50 years.

It appears to have been a beautiful place once, but is definitely in need of the overhaul that is taking place now. Expect that it will be done in about a year (by summer 2015). In the meantime, just a block away is the St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

The Cathedral of The Good Shepherd is located at the junction of Queens street, Victoria Street and Bras Basah road. It is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Singapore and was consecrated in 1847. I visited the cathedral last month but could only see it from the outside. As of 1st November, the cathedral has been closed for renovation for... More

The oldest RC church in Singapore, Good Shepherd Cathedral has "closed" for renovation since late October. Services, including the Afternoon Weekday Mass, will continue at the nearby St Joseph's Church. At the end of the 1.15 pm Mass on Friday 25 October, Father Anthony asked the Congregation to pray for the successful completion of the renovation. The Cathedral is scheduled... More

Well worth a visit for anyone interested in 19th Century church history in Singapore This is one of the Churches built by the pioneering catholic missionaries in Singapore - others include in the area St Joseph, St Peter and Paul, Lady of Lourdes, Sacred Heart. Due for major renovation for around two or three years shortly. Drop in for Sunday... More

The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is among the oldest catholic church building in Singapore. When i was visiting with my wife and son, the building itself seems to require restoration especially the facade that requires structural restrengthening. It is recommended to visit this building as part of a religious pilgrimage during a mass. The atmosphere ands urroundings and the... More

The oldest Roman Catholic church in Singapore, the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd does somewhat resemble St. Martins Academy of the Fields church at Trafalgar Square in London from the outside. As a previous poster mentioned, it does seem this house of worship is overdue for a restoration project. While we found what seemed to be some minor refurbishment work... More

I attended Mass here while visiting Singapore. As with other churches here, it is not air conditioned. The walls are peeling and cracked. But what impressed me the most was the attendance. I attended the Sunday evening Mass, and it was packed. They are currently raising funds for a restoration project, which is badly needed.

Built only with donations and not with government funds, the cathedral is in good shape considering its age. Wander around the cathedral and read off the interesting plaques scattered around the walls and floors. Drop by the Bishop's house next door to say Hi. Cathedral will be empty during off peak hours like any other churches but will be filled... More
