It is worth a visit here as the beginning of a walking tour of Singapore as this is where the origins of Singapore starts. There are actually two statues of Sir Stanford Raffles (the founder of modern Singapore) - a black one in front of the Victoria Memorial Hall and left of it several hundred feet down by the Singapore River junction is another statue of him in white-- this is the spot where supposedly Sir Stanford Raffles landed on January 28, 1819. A nice view from this quiet location as the background is surrounded by many high rises that consist of the Central Business District of Singapore and an occasional riverboat passing by.

2019 celebrates the bicentenary year of the landing of Stamford Raffles in Singapore to establish a British trading post. Celebrations and the national flag of Singapore is flown over public and private buildings throughout the Country. Obviously the site in 1819 was not as clean cut as it is now. There is an ongoing discussion over the actual landing site. What is indisputable is that Raffles was alleged to have landed in Singapore 200 years ago.

Being pretty much at the mouth of the Singapore River before it joins the Marina Bay, this might be where you want to begin your river walk either in the direction toward Clarke Quay (5 to 10 minutes) or in the direction toward 'the Durian' and all the way to the Flyer. And while checking out the standing-tall statue of Sir Stamford Raffles with four description plates in four languages around the bottom of it, also take a moment to look across the river and you'll see this "strikingly peculiar" view of old-styled quaint two-or-three-storied houses TOWERED from behind by the skyscrapers (some 40 to 50 stories high); to me, that's their way of "preserving" the national heritage and showing that the ancient (well, like 50 to 100 years ago) past and modern present can exist side by side (and I'm sure those old-styled houses have all the modern amenities inside).

Also, at just a very short walk from the Raffles statue (in the opposite direction from Clarke Quay) are some interesting sculptures with "detailed" facial expressions on the steps of Asian Civilization Museum; and departing the river promenade and stepping on the land side (or before getting to the river promenade if you come here the way I did), you're in the vicinity of the grand (but also lovely) Arts House, the Old Parliament with a green dome above, the Supreme Court and the current Parliament (quite an unpretentious two-story-or-so building).

Coming by the MRT, it's about a 15-minute-or-so walk south on North Bridge Rd. from City Hall station (green & red lines), but I'm sure there are buses too along that road that can bring you closer to the place than walking from the MRT.

Nothing much here except for the white statue of Raffles and a few plaques. There are a few other sculptures of the early pioneers scattered about and there's a pleasant river walk. River cruises are also available, as is Parliament House and the Asian Civilizations Museum. The eateries and drinking holes of Boat Quay are nearby. There is no guide available so get your information before going there.

Visited timbre which is located just beside this monument. All these time, I did not realised how beautiful it is at night. Take a look at the picture and you will know what I mean.

The Stamford Raffles Landing Site, situated on the other side of the river from Boat Quay features a number of memorials and statues, documenting the known history of modern day Singapore.

This side of the river is the Civic Precinct, with government buildings, concert hall, galleries and museums - very different from Boat Quay and an enjoyable walk.

Yes, nice and scenic view of the river but this was not because of Raffles. However, there is a statue of him which is OK but not more than that.

As the name indicates, this is the place where Sir Stamford Raffles stepped ashore in Singapore for the first time. A statue of Raffles marks the spot and it is obvious he is a much revered man in the country's history. There are a few other things to look at but it's not worth the trip to the area just to see Raffles I wouldn't think.

The old buildings were all cleared for new commercial building. Only a row left in the shore front. The good things replaced were metal statues and figures placed near the old bridges. Figures of dogs and cats watching the boats passing by. Figures of children jumping into the Singapore river for a quick bath. These were tales of yesteryears.

This is right in the CBD and there are a number of places nearby that are worth visiting. They include the National Museum. Around here the river gives you a real feel of Singapore's history. Take your time and wander along the river, have an ice cream and take in the scenery. This area is close by to underground stations. Make sure you see the statues and tableaus along the river.
