The market was liked primarily from an architectural point of view. Built in the Malay tradition, it is high concrete floors - awnings over the retail outlets. It blows well, so it gives the impression of coolness.

Wet Market: Yes, rather smelly. Cheap, but not high quality goods. Their cleanliness need to improve a wee bit.
Cultural value? Visit the new Community Centre just beside it as well.
Food? 5 stars the best congregation of malay, indian, and, indonesian food. Very few stall open in the evening, which is a pity. It should stay open.
Mutton soup? All 3 stalls are good but imho Igbal is the best in Singapore.
Authentic and original chendol with absolutely tasty and fragrant gula melaka and chendol.
Best indonesian? Sinar Pagi.
Nasi Brani? All the stalls are reasonably good, do not lose to tekka market.
Must try! Haig Road Putu Piring, voted best in Singapore on the ground floor food court.
Malay food? Hajijah Mona.
Worthy mention? Otak Otak 02_165.
I live directly opposite and eat here often.

We enjoyed shopping for local and native ingredients, such as serunding and dates and chillies and spices and kropek. I also love the food and drinks stalls. Some of the locals are also helpful, an auntie helped us talk to the vendor that we need a box. Also the market is fairly clean, and is also crowded probably because it’s noon time. Overall experience: very good, and will comeback there on next visit.

I visited here a few years ago. Please come at night. It has a dangerous atmosphere, but it's not dangerous. The food stalls and market are lively and good. Men should definitely stop by. It would be fun to drink or eat standing up in a place like this. The change in atmosphere when you go down an alley is also great.

This is a new market, or bazaar as the old ones have been demolished. This place is famous for local delicacies and local items, if you are tired of going into shopping malls or fancy restaurants.
It is easy to come here, just take the MRT and drop off at Paya Lebar station. You may take the Green Line or Circle Line. All taxi drivers know this place too.
The market is split into 4 parts:
Ground floor: 1 part for wet market and another part for dry items.
First floor: 1 part for food court and another part for women clothing.
If you are here, don't ever forget to try the Kacang Pool (brod beans) at Mustafa. But be early, because usually by 2pm the food will be out of stocks already. It will be packed in the morning as people stop by for breakfast after doing their grocery shopping. The food is very cheap here.
The women clothing section sells many types of muslim clothing as well as children apparels. u may get scarf for as low as SGD5 and shirt as low as SGD10 per piece.
On the ground floor, there are many stalls selling grocery items including fruits, meats, etc.
Overall Experience - Very Satisfying!

This part of Geylang is a malay enclave, not to be mistaken with other seedy parts of Geylang. Markets, shops, shopping complexes, hawker centres. Near to Joo Chiat where you can see some nicely lined shophouses. Nice busy place especially during weekends though weekdays it can be a bit quiet. During the fasting month of ramadan there will pretty evening light-up along Changi Road all the way up to Geylang Serai n Tanjong Katong Complex. This will be the most exciting time to go Geylang Serai.

When one thinks of Singapore, only the well-publicized tourists attractions are brought to mind. Geylang Serai is usually mentioned in a passing remark - if at all.
Many visitors are not aware that Geylang Serai is the focal point of the Malay community in Singapore. It is the heart and soul of the Malays here.
If you want a good, home-cooked meal, look no further. The selection of food here is mind-boggling. You'll find a whole array of Malay cuisines, like the nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk), nasi padang (rice with a whole selection of Malay dishes to choose from), roti prata (the Indian pancake eaten with curry) and so many, many more.
The cooked food centre is located on the second floor of the market. And if you prefer to cook yourself, the lower floor will greet you with a selection of fresh fish, meat, vegetables and all the ingredients you need for a home-cooked dish.
There's also clothings on sale and if you cross over to the next building, the cool air conditioned halls welcome you. Joo Chiat Complex is where you'll be able to shop for clothings, jewellery, household stuff, souvenirs etc.to your hearts' contents.
Visitors should list Geylang Serai as one of the must visit place in Singapore, if you want to have a feel of Malay hospitality and bazaar-like atmosphere, throughout the year.
The minority group that is the pulse of the nation congregate at Geylang Serai - miss it not!

Many types of malay food, some i have not even heard of. I had this yellow roti with curry. It's nice. There is a stall selling home-made kuehs - malay/local kuehs. Many nasi padang stalls - food looked delicious. The building seemed to have malay heritage - it looks outstanding. There are many stalls, besides food stalls. I would definitely pay a visit again

You'd probably know Geyland is Singapore red light district, but the market is a walking distance from it. At night there are a lot of tourist and Singaporeans out for a cool beer or maybe some cheap tasty Singaporean dish as well. Its a great atmosphere full of energy and excitement for a good night out in the town with friends.

Hello,
This is Mrittika from India.
Am visiting Singapore from 23-Feb'15 till 1-Mar'15 for vacation along with my parents. Let me know the popular restaurants or cafés onsite/nearby? Also, how do I get there using public transportation from Hotel Park Sovereign-Albert?
Thanks.
