I have bought "silk" in several locations in this part of the world and usually I accept that it is more likely to be polyester than silk! From time to time I have asked them to do the burn test but in this shop I was confident that I was getting what I was paying for. For a start the... More

As a Canadian I knew nothing about buying silk. My daughter has MS and I wanted to buy a silk sheet for her bed, but Asian beds are shorter than ours. I went to this shop as it was so well recommended and was given outstanding service. I was given options and told, and shown how to determine if the... More

We found some lovely fabric in the shop but there was not enough for our needs. The owner arranged for more to be made for us and then shipped to Australia. He was fantastic to deal with . Communicated well via email. The fabric has been turned into fantastic curtains in our living room. I can not thank Mabir enough... More

This was the best fun ... we learnt so much about silk and what's not pure silk. We bought several lengths and also some German linen which was an unexpected bonus. Went back the next day because we'd forgotten to buy lining. A lovely light, fine cotton was procured for the linen and a couple of lengths of silk lining... More

The staff are very knowledgable and the have wide range of lovely fabrics but the letdown both times I have been here has been their recommended dressmakers. The first time I could not get their preferred dressmaker Sandra and was not told that I was getting someone else. The second time I had more time and got the preferred dressmaker... More

I came here today with my parents and my husband to pick up some silk. I had researched the store before arriving here from America and I am glad that I came! There are lots of fabric stores on Arab street but I decided to visit this one based on the reviews. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and... More

I went here based on the previous reviews by other sewers and craftspeople. The lovely couple that served us, were attentive without being pushy. I ended up buying 4 metres of double woven polished cotton (which has the look of raw silk without the $ price tag) in various shades of green. This was for a series of pillows I... More

We found this shop on Arab Street to have the BEST quality fabrics, scarves, shawls, and more. We were so impressed we went back twice, purchasing two bedspreads and they arranged for shipping them on to our final destination of our trip. If you like luxury fabrics (silks, ikat fabrics, brocades, etc.) and gorgeous authentic cashmere scarves, this is the... More

Kampong Glam
This traditionally Malay enclave of Singapore offers an alluring array of shops, cafes, and bars. A walk down Haji Lane offers quirky shopping, while one block over, Arab Street is a treasure trove of brightly coloured fabrics, clothing, and Turkish rugs. Stop for a leisurely coffee or cocktail and watch local kids play traditional games along the lane. Also home to the Malay Heritage Centre and one of Singapore’s most prominent mosques (Sultan Mosque), Kampong Glam is a must-visit for a tantalizing taste of Malay life in this city.
