I'm sure the success of this must rest in large part on the volunteer guides, but the combination of architectural and historical gems mean that this is one of the best things I have done in Singapore. The NUS admin person is a little officious, but don't be put out by that as the volunteer guide was incredibly knowledgeable and... More

I really recommend the tour of this wonderfully restored Peranakan family home - managed by the University of Singapore. Our guide today - Janice- brought the house to life. She explained all the carvings and symbols, how life would have been lead and the house used, lots of practical details like the house was deliberately open to the elements so... More

Really interesting to l ran a bit of baba culture from an enthusiastic guide. Had a lovely one and a half hour visit. Facing the house the side road to the right has a good tea shop just round the corner.

Step inside the blue house for a little time travelling ! Well worth taking the time. A real insight into Peranaken culture and the history of the families who lived in Singapore.

Really enjoyed our visit here. We have been to Penang and Malacca and the Peranakan museum in Singapore previously and have visited a lot of historical properties associated with the Peranakan heritage. This building is being restored and maintained by the NUS. It is not a visit to explain the culture etc, you should go to the museum for an... More

This family home is a blend of ethnic Chinese and Malay architecture. It has been restored by the National University of Singapore. The front facade has vivid colours. Behind that are decorative wooden screens leading to a large courtyard. There is nice wooden altar. The upper level has bedrooms with great furniture and portraits. You literally travel to an early... More

Very informative visit with helpful knowledgeable guides, the house gives a glimpse in to the past lives of a unique heritage not found anywhere else but South East Asia, it's great to see the house preserved and maintained for future generations, we really enjoyed the tour (which had to be booked) the tour would most likely suit people interested in... This NUS attraction is not to be missed. Be sure to book ahead and have a second date in mind if you are not able to get your preferred day. An hour long, step back into early Singapore life with the aide of a well trained guide. You will learn lots of interesting facts and trivia. Not suitable for young... More

Just got back from Singapore. I go every 2 years. This trip I managed to do the Baba House Tour. It is an old shop front house in Neil Road. It has been painstakingly restored. The detail from the outside facade , through the glorious front doors and throughout the entire house, is a credit to the hard work and... More
