Though awfully hot when we went to Simala, the presence of the Holy Spirit moves especially if you hear the healing mass.
It feels nostalgic to see such a beautiful place with so many devotees from different parts of the country or if i may say, even parts of the world (since we had seen foreigners when we visited)
A holy place to make wishes, this should be preserved for it will bring not only revenue to the church so within the community

Don't waste your time going here unless your dress code is 18th century. A formal dress 3 inches above the knee is considered sexy and not allowed. Seriously. After spending two and a half hours travelling to get there we were turned away by heavy handed security. My girlfriend was so insulted. I was incensed. The religious hypocrisy in this country is insane. This place ceased being a church 100 years ago when they turned it into a tourist attraction. Don't bother. Go to Thailand instead, the Philippines isn't worth your time or your money.

We visited the Simala Shrine in Cebu since we are Catholics and we were told that this was a pilgrimage site. I personally did not like the appearance of the shrine. It looked gawdy to me and appeared to be more like an amusement park rather than a religious site. There was service going on when we arrived.it was broadcasted loudly over the loudspeaker system. It did not feel peaceful and holy to me.

Booked a private vehicle to get the shrine. The place was not far from Cebu City but the traffic and rough roads to get here is the reason for close to 3hr drive.
The place had a lot of people, we went directly up the main church. Mini-stores lined the side entrance, people buying souvenirs, religious items and also lighting candles.
People stay indoors to pray and ask for intercession for their prayers.

I'm impressed so much with this place, architecture and ambiance of this church is very different that I've ever seen in Philippines. So many local people visits there with their pure feelings and it's location at very crowded town worth to visit

Today, we visited this place. We ought to have a solemn prayer unfortunately the place was very crowded. And there was one guy on duty shouted on us. We know our fault but its not a major offense, he didn't have to shout and humiliate us in front of the crowd. I knew his doing his line of work but is it right to humiliate us?
