Just a few tips on your travel to Palawan

In Puerto Princesa, the capital of Palawan, basic needs and commodities are easily accessible. There are department stores, convenience stores, groceries, and pharmacies throughout the city that are complete with personal effects, clothing, accessories, medicines, and just about anything you need for a comfortable holiday in Palawan. There are banks and ATM machines throughout the city, and major credit cards are accepted at most accommodations but for shopping it is best to bring enough cash.

Souvenir shops around town carry beautifully made handcrafted goods in Palawan that make for lovely gifts to any home. They usually carry a wide range of exotic wooden furniture and décor. Beautiful pearls, native goods, and fashion accessories made from local materials can also be found. Because many souvenir shops usually carry the same products, it is recommended to check out other shops that may sell the product for a cheaper price.

In the sleepy province town of El Nido, there are no department stores or large groceries. For toiletries and medicines, Farmacia Comprendio has just about everything you need. If you are travelling from Puerto Princesa to El Nido, it is highly recommended that you purchase what you need in Puerto Princesa prior to your departure.

Small shops that line the streets in El Nido sell a range of souvenirs as well, such as sarongs and native products. The El Nido Art Boutique carries accessories, clothing, modern swimwear, and travel necessities such as sun block, insect repellent, and toiletries. Not to mention they also have a fantastic selection of European dishes, seafood, delicious organic vegetables and refreshing fruit shakes!

Don't forget to bring reusable bags if you plan to do shopping - minimise, or even better, completely avoid the use of plastic bags.

There are no banks or ATM's in El Nido, so it is wise to bring enough cash for your trip. The only places that accept credit cards are top end resorts and the El Nido Art Boutique.

The must buys in Palawan include freshwater pearls, dried or fresh seafood, the freshest and tastiest cashew nuts, woodcarvings, pastries from Bakers Hill (if your flight gets delayed), and paintings and sketches from Kamarikutan Gallery. If the paintings are too expensive, then buy the shirts! If you are with a sweet tooth, take home some cashew nougat, yema or other sinfully sweet "pasalubong" stuff (souvenirs to take home).

Free entrance with museum tour included. Provides an overview of what can be seen/explored in Palawan. It's sad that only a few know of this place. Will visit again!

My friends, who were locals, brought me to this heritage center. I was blown away with what I saw! I thought it deserved more than the PHP 50.00 donation that we gave as entrance fee. For one, the layout was well planned and strategically arranged. The museum displays was also interactive and used modern technology like videos and holograms as they explained the story of Palawan. The guides knew their stuff and were very passionate in their work. We were also lucky that they were exhibiting works of Palaweño artists. Overall, it's a must visit place!

Gives a good insight of Palawan history, geography, ethnology and places to visit. There are exhibits, videos, touchscreen and even a holographic visual. It's a small museum but with good enough information.

There was already a video presentation going on when we entered. In the confusion, we joined in and later was assigned to a guide. There are a few guides in different sections. I'd enjoyed the South Sea Pearl section most.

We were asked to sign the guest book in the end. Our guide told us there was a P 50 fee per pax, which I paid promptly but was not given a ticket or receipt. I'm not sure if the fee is even official. Do ask when you go. It's located next to the Capitol building.

Lots of pictures and displays and we also got a private tour guide that was very charming and knowledgeable. Well worth the 50php donation. And it was nice to learn a little bit about the colonial and indigenous history of Palawan.

Its a rainy afternoon and everybody was busy roaming around the Provincial Capitol grounds... it was the BARAGATAN FESTIVAL 2014..what caught my attention was a group of people trying to find this place where they could glimpse on the past ...and ask for the next big thing to happen... curiosity or lack of information made them aware of its existence... but after theyve seen the newly open place... all u hear was simply an admiration of how PALAWAN was truly a blessing to them... nature.. adventure... history...people ... culture and its arts... incomparable...scenery...food... ambiance... unique environment endowed with its natural.beauty ...makes it a destination where you all you have to do is just take a shot after.shot in your lens to make every spot a part of a beautiful experience....
