We booked Green Car rail passes due to having a large amount of luggage to tour Japan with, and the Shinkansen trips were truly unforgettable! On most journeys, we had the carriage to ourselves, and the seats are huge and extremely comfortable, reclining to an almost laid-down position, whilst watching the countryside fly past! Because we had booked for the... More

Punctual, clean and fast. Also, phone works well while riding. My proof being that I'm writing this on a Shinkansen. So meta.

Need to find lots of readings on net, to know tht it's not operated by East JR, but by Central rail instead, such that u can't purchase a ticket from the popular East JR site, nor the Central rail site (since u need their credit card). Purchusing a ticket at Shinjuku station for a ride is more simple than purchasing... More

We took the train back from our day tour to Mount Fuji . It was a great experience and only took us 40 minutes to get back to Tokyo. Extraordinary experience.

We took the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, a past capital of Japan. 150 to 200 mph, was a fast trip under any consideration. Good seating, clean and was worth the trip for sure. This is a must for anyone traveling to Japan. A little pricey, but how often do you do this? On a clear day, you will... More

Shinkansen is very fast and efficient ride through Japan. Almost always on time and you can trust this bullet train. If you are not Japanese, you can buy "JR pass" before you leave your country and buy this pass. There are two kinds: 2-week pass and 3-week pass. You can ride all Japan Railway and JR bus during that period.... More

We used the skinkansen bullet trains from Tokyo Station to both Kyoto and Nagano for the snow monkeys. The trains are indeed clean, including the restrooms, as everyone on TripAdvisor raves. There is a lot more room than on a plane as well. Food is served eventually but you have to catch the vendor as they do move fast through... More

Had a spare day in Tokyo, right at the start of Cherry Blossom time. Where else would you want to go but Kyoto. Without the train, no chance at all. Takes 2 hours 20 minutes including stops. A train leaves basically every 10 or so minutes. Staggering. Lash out and pay the extra Yen 500 for a reserved seat. At... More

Took the Shinkansen to Kyoto. This was the best train ever and I have taken many. Not only is it super fast and surprisingly on time, but is is amazingly clean. The service is great and ladies, you will appreciate this, the bathrooms are spotless. Spend the little bit extra and go for the green car (first class).
